Tony B
Intrresting reference to Halstead. I think that would be the quarry below the Fort. The Fort also had a number of WW2 German equipment installed. Wonder what wil happne to that when it finally closes.
Zero-Five-Two
Do you think the reporter could have got it wrong and meant Halling (Snodland) rather than Halstead

It did have the capability of being armed with a nuclear tipped torpedo apparently. It used to be Woolwich , where I went abaord it. Currently it is being used a fish feeder. Nick Johns
I don't know why suddenly its so news worthy, and reports of the mystery of how it got there, its not a recent discovery, the sub has been well known of for years, it featured on a TV programme a few years ago. Here is the full story on the Kent History forum of this submarine and other German WW1 submarines that were also scrapped, remains of which also survive in the same area, and why this one came to be abandoned to where it lies now http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=2336.0 Edited December 21, 2013 by Nick Johns
