ANOTHER FUEL PRICE RISE? 16p per gallon

It is an absolutely ridiculous and completely unnecessary rise ......yet again!.

.every single item that is bought or sold in the UK has to be moved by road.... and if you look at the price of fuel from just the point of view of a haulier..... (never mind a private individual!:embarrassed:).... it is a absolutely stupid policy to follow........

I have e-mailed my MP on this, in the 2 years since I last got a wage rise, my drive to and from work has gone from £7.20 a day too, at current prices, £10.20.... the proposed rise will take my daily commute to £10.80, that is 33% more than 2 years ago!

I know some of this is due to barrel prices but much more is down to tax, this next rise is going too far, are the government trying to make it impossible to run a car/drive to work?

Yep-I have hassled my MP too. I dread to think where this is going as it costs £130 to fill the tank on the car at the moment.

As RattlesnakeBob says it's one duty (tax) which affects us all, even if we don't own a car, as it adds a significant amount to the goods we buy which are transported by road.:mad::mad:

I guess the cause of the problem is that (and this has to be a sweeping generalisation) we are living beyond our means, i.e. we cannot really afford to have all the things we have, do all the things we do, and do our bit to save the planet at the same time.

So the 16p thing is a way of getting more funds in to allow us to carry on - well for a little bit longer anyway :D

Take for example our manufacturing industry, that has cleaned its environmental act up a lot in recent decades. It is gradually disappearing because we can buy products made outside the country much cheaper - because they have not been made with a similar consideration to the environment or well-being of the workforce. So our wealth goes out of the country and the planet is worse off. That makes a whole load of load of sense doesn't it? :nut:

I suppose we could be a bit more patriotic and support our own commerce and industry (that would be helping folk who want a job and helping to minimise pollution), perhaps by paying a little more for products, so jobs are created and the money we spend goes back into the community, but that would be so selfish of us, wouldn't it?

Or would it? Who has the answer? What was the question?

Oh yes, 16p on a litre of what used to be top quality mineral fuel but has now been buggered up by mixing in some biofuel rubbish that bungs up your fuel system, causes food prices to go up and doesn't do a whole lot to make the carbon footprint smaller anyway. Size 8 is a European 42 isn't it?

Any one collect stamps?

So - trying not to break my own rules (note to Mods this is in now way releated to the P word ).

- Fighting the war in Afghanistan has now cost UK taxpayers an estimated £18billion – all met by the Exchequer – since 2001

Now just let me work out if this has anything to do with fuel costs going through the roof.

You luck person. I believe my last pay rise was 4 years ago. Provided you do not take into acount the reinstatement of the 10% cut.

Mind you I did go insane in that period and bought a Series 3 FFR Land Rover.

I was hopefully getting better but I seem to have a hankering for something else green.:)

The last increase even shocked me and I walk to work. A week after filling up at 133 a liter it was at 139.

Makes me think about how and where I drive.

How much revenue does it actually generate if people stop driving?

Oh and it will not save the planet.

The planet is big enough and old enough to look after itself. When something on it gives it grief it has what scientists term a mass extinction event and then starts off where it left off.

Oh and for all those who thing Polar Bears are cute and cuddly (including the wife) by all accounts you can cuddle them once. They are the only animal that will actively hunt humans and they used to be brown before it got cold and they evolved.

I am kinda of guessing these are actually in your collection NOS....................

No no no Jack, I was just trying to take my mind off the diesel issue and thought I'd see what MV stamps there were around in case the mv hobby had to contract to something more manageable which didn't need fuelling up. They are nice though, aren't they? It's ok, I've just taken some more pills.

However, I do happen to have a first issue cover with the Red Ball U-7144T stamp on (well I would, wouldn't I...) :cool2:

Well you have touched on something there Jack. I'm sure I'm not alone in being fed up seeing more and more money going on foreign aid, wars in countries where we seemingly don't need to be and are not wanted, whilst at the same time the health service here has gone t+*s up, businesses are failing, the average family is struggling to survive, we pay so called 'fat cats' bonuses they can do without, etc. etc. etc. The list goes on.

As a family we have always tried to live within our means with very few frivolous extras (scammell aside ), we have always had the smallest car we could manage with- an escort when it was just the two of us, but now we are a family of six we have to run a big car, with the attendant fuel consumption. We live in a rural area so the car is essential to get around. We're both self-employed and it's getting harder to find work, although we have always done the extra to provide for the kids. Meanwhile we have seen our friend's farm labourers opting to stop work, as they would actually be better off on benefits. Something is seriously wrong with this country's economy and it's not going to be fixed quickly. Now, where are my pills.....:coffee:

Not wanting to wander into the realms of the dreaded "P" word also - but have a Google for the amount of Foreign Aid to one country in particular - India. It's in excess of £300 million usually and topped nearly £1.2 billion last year when they were (allegedly) considering buying the Eurofighter. And that's without the £££'s poured into it's economy by firms outsourcing IT work to Indian call centres...

Bear in mind this is a country with it's own space and atomic weapons programs AND gives out about £300 million in foreign aid itself.... One has to ask why the hell we are providing this amount of money here and to other equally less needy countries if we, as a country, are so skint that we have have to hammer the ordinary citizens for transport - be it their own or the goods they use???

Neil, I couldnt have put it better myself! We have to be Finacialy strong ourselves, BEFORE we can extend the hand of Help.

If this state of affairs continues. we will be broken in the years to come!

If you DEMAND to be an Independant nation, away from the umbrella of help. If you were a Former 'Colony'.

Then Im sorry, but YOUR problems are YOUR Problems. NOT ours, if you wish to remain 'Independant'!.........

Very well put. I realise my last post sounds pretty uncharitable when there are people genuinely suffering in the world, but surely we need to get the economy sorted at home before extending a hand to others. I'm thinking also of countries like SPain, who have also absorbed millions of euros from other countries of the EU to keep afloat, but are not a developing nation by any means. Sadly I think prices will just keep going up here. :-(

I was surprised to recieve a writen reply to my e-mail, I was not surprised to read that:_

The present government have reduced tax recently by 1p and overturned a proposed rise left over from the previous government.

I think page 2 must be missing as there is no mention of the 16p rise that i complained about.....

Just one question - If they sell Petrol in Litres, why is the price rise 16p a Gallon? Wouldn't it be better for the Government to say how much a Litre it is going up?

If they get hold of it er will se a rise of 16p/litre.

OOPS should not have typed that either

Anyeay what is wrong with miles and gallons.

The government do publish price increases (Fuel) by the ltr...... it does not sound like such a large increase, its we, the poor old motorist who converts it to gallons so that we can understand by just how much it has gone up.... again... 16p equates to a 3 shillings and 2 old pence. Now remember that thats just the increase, when I started driving at 17 (on the road) petrol cost 3 shillings and 6 old pence per GALLON. (Thats roughly 18 New pence) Just slightly more per gallon than the INCREASE per litre..... frightening really, but hey, we are here to be bled to death, fuel is a fine old cash cow for the government.......... but behind the scenes they are also increasing parking charges, not a bad business to be in, is it????

Now I could start on the fuel costs for my business vehicles, but that would only depress you, like its doing to me........................... £500.00 to fill up a truck
