  1. 439: The only downside to putting a hinge and a couple of gas struts on the upper structure is that you're likely to get someone coming up and telling you they weren't actually built like that.......:cool2:
  2. Welcome to the forum, Matt. I'm beginning to wonder if models - although sometimes not much cheaper in cost or time than the real thing - might be the way to solve the space problem a collection of big MVs creates!
  3. It's a ratchet strap-actuated lift axle officer!
  4. The clear top is a great idea - I know some modellers go to no end of trouble to get stuff right but then cover it all up - at least here the inside work can be admired and the clear top doesn't look out of place either!
  5. For the sake of peace and quiet, these are from Tony B: :flowers::flowers::flowers::flowers::flowers::flowers::flowers::flowers::flowers::flowers:
  6. Spare a thought for poor old R3 - it must have been a bu**er of a job neatly wrapping that spare GMC transfer box with birthday paper!
  7. If anyone would like the very last 45/60 Ton float made by Cranes (new in 1964 to Wrekin Roadways), let me know. The paint isn't as good as in this old photo! Straight but not for the faint hearted. P.S. In case anyone is not familiar with the size of these float trailers, that is NOT a pedigree race horse - it's a big dog :-D

    Tips?

Depends where you're coming from in terms of interest I guess. Most folk have a passion for a specific type of vehicle - which leads to finding and buying one. If it needs a lot of work then maybe the fun will really start, as spares for certain vehicles can be very difficult to locate. Often it is only the strong bond with the vehicle that keeps the owner going during what can be a long and frustrating search for parts. On the other hand some folk enjoy the spares challenge I only mention this because if you are simply after a military vehicle to work on to fulfill your main enjoyment as a restorer, then it may be wise to select a vehicle for which parts are readily available - if not you may get disheartened and abandon it. If you can specify your main interests (e.g. British / body or mechanical restoration / hunting difficult to source parts / making impossible to source parts ), then it may be easier for members to give the right advice?
  9. I went last Friday. Good film. It must be difficult to make each film better than the last, but making them a bit different keeps the marque fresh. Does anyone else think that popcorn should be banned from cinemas - from both noise and 'aroma' aspects?
  10. As if being on Facebook wasn't bad enough. What?
  11. I just don't understand the 'capable of carrying goods' thing they are on about. If it has no cargo area - just a bed, cooker, sofa and fridge - there would seem to be a case for claiming it is not able / constructed / adapted to carry cargo. :undecided: I'm guessing a pre-1960 trailer used / adapted as a living van does not have these same issues?
  12. And there was me thinking a LIVING VAN would be a van for living in, not a van for carrying goods in. How stupid of me
  13. Google ROYAL motorhome covers - also available from many caravan outlets.
  14. What a wonderful bit of filming and great characters - as TM says "They're all mad" (him included) :-D Can't wait till tomorrow
  15. Now that would be well worth investigating - any volunteers to dig out the relevant legislation?
  16. My understanding is 'Yes the trailer needs an MOT'. Other things to consider: 1) If the Diamond T is run as 'historic' with exemption from MOT, it can only pull the trailer if it is 'unladen'. 2) The definition of 'unladen' needs careful consideration (which means I couldn't tell you exactly what that means :-D).
  17. Great idea, good post
  18. Whatever was the tank driver thinking, hitting the ramps at that speed? :n00b:
  19. Wasn't the Berliet wrecker essentially a U.S. 5 Ton chassis / running gear and crane? Or am I thinking of another vehicle?
  20. Just look what the USAAF had to do in India/Burma/IndoChina :wow: WC54 Ambulance: Chev 4x4 Tipper body(?) half:
  21. No need to apologise, Richard - what I posted was a low resolution version of part of the photo. I was was so worried I'd jumped to the wrong conclusion that I got up early to find the photo online again so I could recheck and inspect the high res. version which you did not have the benefit of seeing.
  22. Hi Tony, if you follow the link in my post (to the American Truck Historical Society), I think there is info on a couple of preserved Darts - I believe one of them is a hard cab T13 model?
