  1. "We would love to pull a Spitfire out of the ground, but we have always said this is about the story, the background, the archaeological research" :undecided: Andy
  2. Our cat doesn't like it either. If he actually deigns to get his paws wet, on coming indoors they're shaken as though there's something really nasty on them! Andy
  3. But they may have been digging (pumping?) in the wrong place .... ;-) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/aviation/9811196/Search-for-lost-Spitfires-ends-in-failure-for-treasure-hunters.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-21074699 http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/archaeology/news/no-lost-spitfires-buried-in-burma-8457710.html Andy
  4. I seem to remember asking this before and being told you can't because the facility has been disabled. Andy
  5. It should also be capable of going "bang" provided I can source the parts ... Andy
  6. Thanks Rob - just seeing if there was anything particular. Andy
  7. That would be very helpful thanks. Unfortunately both vehicles live in Devon and neither is yet ready to emerge from the barn. Hopefully next year the Abbot may make a tour of the South coast! Andy
  8. So how does one become "trade" then? :-) Andy
  9. Rob, out of interest, what do you use to clean up the metalwork? Andy
  10. This is certainly more interesting than tales of soggy crates ... :-) Andy
  11. I'm a Chartered Electrical Engineer working for a large defence and security company, although oddly enough the "proper job" has nothing to do with military vehicles! Andy
  12. What colour are the bottles? You'll find that most fire extinguisher firms will refuse to recharge anything that isn't red. I had that problem with a couple of green CO2 extinguishers recently. Andy
  13. Interesting - there's a couple of us getting fibreglass 105mm ones made up for our Abbots. Andy
  14. It looks as though the DVLA are getting worried, as it's in the news again: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20968886 Andy
  15. So now I'm wondering what on earth a Leyland DAF 4 tonne is doing with a gunner's quadrant, surely not part of the standard CES? :-) Andy
  16. Don't worry, I didn't know either until someone told me a few months back! Andy
  17. Perhaps they're really Seafires? :-) Andy
  18. For those who don't know, Google is as good at searching for images as it is for words and phrases. Click on "Images" at the top of the Google home page and it will open a search box. Click on the little camera icon that appears in the search box and either cut and paste the picture URL or upload the picture from where you've saved it on your machine. Doing that on your picture results in a series of hits, the fifth or sixth one down being the Flickr link. Simples! :-) Andy
  19. I recently bought a gunner's quadrant and No.4 fuze setter for my Abbot. Both bear vehicle VRNs, 23KK84 and 48KK28. Am I correct in thinking those are both AS90s? Andy
  20. Not a bad evening all round, especially with the Neil Armstrong programme beforehand and the Bonneville one after. It's always struck me that the M3 should have been British, not American. It looks like the product of some mad Victorian inventor, just needs a steam engine! Andy
  21. Wikipedia says four of the last production B.VIIs taken from storage by the RAF and several Lincolns used for static shots. Andy
  22. Greetings to all from just down the road. I'm hoping for a somewhat drier and warmer 2013! Andy
  23. I thought that Little and Big Willie were fully tracked, not half tracks? Andy
  24. While that may be true in general, the OP only wants to run a SatNav or 'phone charger from the 12V supply. They're typically powered from a USB connector, so probably about 5W max? I don't see that would be much of an issue for asymmetric discharge. To be really safe you could run one device off each battery if earthing isn't a problem. Andy
