  1. Agreed - a good starting point would be to switch it on for a while, then switch off and check to see if any valves are still cold. Andy
  2. Obviously I can't see his face or judge his age, but is there a chance it's his uniform and his medals? Andy
  3. The DPA disappeared some time ago, it's now DE&S. And what was the Disposal Sales Agency (who sell all this stuff to Withams and the like) is now the Disposal Sales Authority as agencies are no longer in fashion .... Andy
  4. If you're thinking about transport (as opposed to storage) consider the scenario if well-meaning member of the public rings Mr Plod saying "there's a man driving down the High Street with a machine gun in his car". Mr Plod will send an ARV to investigate, whose weapons won't be deactivated. Save yourself the trouble and possible fatal injury by ensuring your weapons are at least covered or even better, hidden from view. Andy
  5. I really hope they've had a good chat with the RN Submarine Museum at Gosport about the perils of displaying submarine hulls outdoors. We learned the hard way with both Holland 1 and HMS Alliance. :-( Andy
  6. I seem to recall that Manroy will sell you a brand new deactivated GPMG straight from the factory. No idea of cost, though. Andy
  7. She's looking really good Iain, fingers crossed for the test run! Andy
  8. An SA80 magazine full of blank rounds ... Andy
  9. I think that Marcus is selling plain 6TNs, which are conventional flooded lead-acids, as opposed to the 6TNMF (Hawker). They won't last as long as the Hawkers so may prove a false economy. All 6TN variants should be the same size, 286mm x 269mm x 230mm. There is a version without the breather manifold (as used by the US) but it isn't any lower as the overall height is dictated by the terminals. Andy
  10. Well done - doesn't look in too bad nick, does it? A nice little project to finish things off .... Andy
  11. I occasionally work out of Dorset Green Technology Park, so I know what you mean! I think you'll find that the ABRO/DSG civilian drivers are trained by SVT ... Andy
  12. I'm sure a number of people will shortly pop up on here saying that they took their test on a mini digger and were granted an H licence ... :-) Andy
  13. Indeed - HMS Vanguard, the UK's last battleship, used the WWI turrets from HMS Courageous and HMS Glorious. Andy
  14. The maintenance was very much "First Parade" stuff and aimed at CVR(T)s (I passed my test in a Scorpion) but useful just the same. Andy
  15. I did mine with SVT in Norwich. Not cheap, but it's a two day course + test and thoroughly recommended. http://www.svtraining.co.uk/ Andy
  16. I've noticed this before and wondered if it was just me. Interestingly it also appears to vary depending where you are in the Forum (and no, I'm not using the thread search, just the generic one at the top of the site). Andy
  17. Sometimes you just need to know when to stop digging ... :-) Andy
  18. Another vote for AVG Free on Windoze machines. It's just as good as any of the commercial ones I've tried and I can't say I've ever noticed any effect on performance unless it's running a full machine scan. Andy
  19. My old Chief Gunnery Instructor would have a fit if he saw them holding a Sterling like that .... Andy
  20. Not that one - the original vehicle this thread is about! :-) Andy
  21. OK, I've just checked. This is the one that was bought at Beltring, yes? In that case it's an EW-equipped 432, not a 436. Andy
  22. I was driving down the A303 yesterday, so popped into Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford only to find that their military vehicles have disappeared. :-( Even more interesting, they've apparently been sold. Does anyone know where they might have gone? Andy
