  1. lol it's not a game for those with modest incomes and young families
  2. Churchill manganese track :cool2: dave do you think I would be able to recover the track for my Churchill avre ? rick
  3. Andrew you are right the t16 is the final development of the universal but you just can't beat the original version for fun, the t16 is too long to wiz about in, although it is a superior vehicle in practical terms and also amphibious but does suffer from the rear end pitching down when climbing a slope (which results in track slipping), a problem they never resolved even though a simple fix like turning the rear suspension units around would have solved it. (bit of t16 trivia) enigma I never got to drive it as I just didn't have the time or money to get the engine running even though everything else was in place, I just had to get some cash in the bank pronto, funnily enough I sold it only 8 hours after it went on milweb and back to the same guy I had bought it off a year earlier rick
  4. I agree with you rich but you're missing the point, it's because of those yank lovers and german fanciers that us real englishmen must put on a good show and let everyone know that our grandfathers also took part in ww2 and by doing this we may tip the scales in our favour and in some small way honour our own veterans before everyone else's :goodidea:
  5. I was quite impressed by the lvt, it looked to be a well thought out vehicle and manoeuvred brilliantly (but only in a straight line )
  6. I miss my t16 I spent hundreds of hours restoring it then had to sell it to fund the Cromwell, never even got to drive it
  7. as far as I can remember the t16 units are identical to carrier although they have inner and outer springs in both front and rear where as the carrier has them in the front only, the roller wheel is also a solid casting and carrier has a rubber moulding over the steel inner part, I think there is also a slightly thicker spacer between the wheel and swing arm but that is a little vague so I can't say for certain. rick
  8. £350 for the suspension unit and £75 a piece for the wheels
  9. excellent pics thanks for posting them up
  10. I only managed to get there on sunday and just on foot but that didn't stop me having a bash around the arena in andy's ferret and a quick spin in the sauer I've decided to turn up and drive other peoples vehicles more often. (it's a lot cheaper) I was on my way to catch up with you john but was side tracked into driving the sauer instead rick
  11. I spoke to ian galliers earlier this week about buying some track and he had good and bad available. send me a pm if you want his details. rick
  12. the cromwell and comet were next to each other all week on the tank museum pitch, I also managed to get the centurion owner to park next to the comet for a few days so all the british cruisers were lined up. next year we may have a charioteer running as well and if we could come up with a crusader we would have the cruiser tanks lined up from start to finish, i also know the owners of a cavalier and centaur but they won't be ready anytime soon but maybe one day ! rick
  13. lol I know cromwells better than most and I can't spot anything that's not accurate about the work you're doing. excellent job  rick
  14. try rex Cadman, he has lots of valentine suspension parts and I'm sure he can help you out. I have a complete set of spare track for one side if you need any. rick
  15. there are some good pics on toadmans tank. the besa mounts on a bronze bracket which is bolted to the ball mount/mantlet. it is retained by a round bar with a flat machined into it. the gun slides on guides into the bracket with the flat uppermost, when the gun is all the way in the bar is rotated which engages with a groove on the bottom of the gun, this holds the gun after which the inverted guide bars either side on the mounting are tightened which locks the gun in position. rick
  16. I don't know the ballistic specs for cvrt but I do know that aluminium has to be 2.5 x thicker than steel to achieve the same amount of protection. I doubt any of the apc's would be proof against a .50ap round. rick
  17. I had a great show, just a shame I was so busy talking to people that I hardly got chance to see any of it. I'd also like to apologise to anyone that got held up behind the Cromwell while we loaded it onto the trailer on sunday but 15 mins wasn't too bad and at least we didn't get stuck. rick
  18. I thought I recognised the name when I heard it on the news. what a w@nker
  19. good to hear it mate, hope it goes back together without a struggle
  20. lol I was near the tankette when the owner was talking a little about it and the only original item was a spare wheel carried on the rear armour he made a joke about it and I thought good for you mate it's nice to see someone so honest and up front. rick
  21. I will second that good luck to them rick
  22. john you've not been riveting again have you ! good luck with the eye hospital hope they sort it out for you. rick
  23. hope it ends well for him, nice money but big risks working those parts of the world
