  1. actually i was gonna keep hold of it and swap it for something else with bovington when the need arises,(black prince would be nice)
  2. All i need now is a few other miscellanious bits and pieces and i'll have a complete panther .Anyone want to lend them to me .it is xmas after all
  3. Again steve your knowledge of all things armoured amazes me,I had posted this on another forum this morning and a chap from poland posted the diagram for a panther dynamo and it was definately the same one,do you know if they were interchangeable with the tiger.I have to admit i'm pretty chuffed i had a nasty feeling somebody was going to tell me it was a motor from an old table saw .i owe you a pint(Again) all the best eddy
  4. here are the dimensions dia 7", length 14", weight 35 kg
  5. hi robin i was an army mechanic and the rumour/myth was that the chassis was longer on one side than the other hence the aversion to driving in a straight line ,however i never worked on one but know they were not liked by the guys .eddy
  6. thanks for the reply,i'll give it a go.by the way i used to have a 434 in germany, i loved my barra.all the best eddy
  7. Hi guys I bought this from ebay ,the seller claimed it came from the placy montaigu region and could have come from a tiger 1,now i'm no expert on these things but i thought it was worth a gamble as it certainly looks like it came from a german vehicle. If anyone could shed some light on it's origins i'd be very grateful.many thanks eddy
  8. hi just found out this scrapyard is on youtube type in "tank graveyard in australia". regards eddy
  9. hi folks I'm sure a few of you have seen these before on the web but it's worth posting again. This is a scrapyard in murrayville ,oz.I tried to find it on google earth but no joy, if anyone knows the location would you let us know and if there are any aussies reading this how about getting down there and making an offer on them(put me down for one too please).all the best eddy
  10. I know the churchill was no racing snake but it had a lot of armour on the front and it's cross country ability was unrivalled and the crews loved them, that is the real measure of a tank slowly slowly catchy monkey
  11. there's a chieftain at the reme training establishment in bordon which is used for battle damage assessment and repair. It was hit with an anti-tank round on the front of the turret and which then exited through the turret ring at the rear.Incidentally the tank was still operational and could fight on although with limited traverse.however i doubt the crew would be as battleworthy. my favourite tank was the black prince super churchill, the germans wouldn't know what hit them, shame it wasn't developed 3 years earlier
  12. hi fellas Thought you might like to see these pics from the gulf war 1,the first is of a 109 on loan to 26 fd ra(abbott regt converted to 109 for gulf war).while on a practice fire mission an ember from a previous charge ignited the new charge bag while the breech was open. The crew was badly burned but lived, the rear door was found 100 yards away. I thought i would also include a pic of me doing a pack lift on a 109.We never did fix it and ended up dragging it through iraq from one fire mission to the next.not much fun in a foden. The last pic is of an iraqi 2s3 152mm gun their equivilent to the 109 ,nice bit of kit. Incidentally i saw another 109 blow up while i was there i'm not sure which regt is was maybe 40 fd or 2 fd but it was parked up only 2k's away when it started to cook off which was bad enough but there was also a fully bombed up 548 next to it (big bang time) luckily some brave soul jumped in and moved it .I don't think anyone was killed but i did see a 432 ambulance scudding across the desert to their location shortly after.I heard later that the british fuse was longer than the american one and this had caused the shells stowed on the floor to rub the turret ring when traversing causing an electric short. all the best eddy
  13. hi steve do you know what the turret in #27 came off, it looks a little like a saxon turret?what do you think.I remember the idea of retro fitting the saxons in bosnia back in 94 with them, but nothing ever came of it,so i never saw one in the flesh but it looks familiar .cheers eddy
  14. and again sorry but i can't load more than two at a time
  15. hi fella's just a few pics i found of 6 churchills and an m10 achilles on warcop range in cumbria.Pretty bashed up i'm afraid.what i would call beyond economic repair, but there may be a brave soul out there that might want to take on a "fixer upper".All the best eddy p.s. thre's more pics,if anyone would like to see them just let me know.
  16. hi i used to work on bedfords(ex reme). There was 2 cold start devices, but man that was a long time ago so i may be wrong about the finer details.there was a pump and chamber on the dash that you placed the ether into but i think that was just for the older mk's.mj's had a black button which you depress for the heater plugs.as far as i can remeber there was no seperate fuel reservoir for cold start as the injector pump was always in the excess fuel position until the accelerator was depressed for the first time.sorry i can't be more specific but that's about as much as i remeber and that might not be spot on as it's been a while.hope it helps eddy
  17. hi steve you may have just made my day.I'm looking for a churchill to play with in the future.do you know the location of the buried tanks and are they in any restorable condition, even cosmetically,i found 6 on warcop range,2 with turrets,i don't know much but maybe it's feasible to get one together from that lot.as for them being concreted that might be an advantage all you'd need was a breaker and a coupler of big poles (jani & marius)job done.seriously though any information would be greatfully received.many thanks eddy
  18. hi antar i live just up the road from you in gee cross and saw the 578 on your drive.i used to drive one from 49fd ra back in the day. great bit off kit, plenty of power and no slouch everyone liked a cabby in 578.only problem is every time you brake your knee hits the tiller bar and you track left.great choice though.incidentally if you find it starts lacking power try the electric fuel pumps located on the tanks, common fault on 578 and 109.all the best eddy
  19. It's nice to be on the forum.i'm eddy a builder from manchester before that i was an army mechanic, but don't hold that against me!I have an interest in ww2 armour, particulary the churchill which one day i hope to own a running example.(been on ebay but no luck so far).iv'e worked on lots of soft skin and armour in my time so if i can be of some small help it would be my pleasure.all the best eddy.
