  1. finally got the number for the haulage guy today and will give him a call tomorrow but don't worry lance even if it doesn't get to me in time you can always take a trip to the iow to see it at daves yard. it should be nice on the island this time of year :-D rick
  2. I like to use a sponge gloss roller on the smaller jobs, it gives a really nice finish (if you keep a wet edge) and it just feels better to be pushing the paint into the surface as opposed to spraying on top of it. rick
  3. I painted mine white as that was the original colour I found under the silver paint but dave Arnold told me black was correct, like most things I think they varied so if you found white paint then paint it white. rick
  4. looking well, glad you got the old girl on the road again. rick
  5. me too lance, could be a real alladins cave of stuff to come with the tank. should be up with me in the next 2 weeks rick
  6. yes you are right Bill. I have recently discovered how to make a small fortune from tank restoration. You start off with a large one !!!
  7. unfortunately I don't have enough room in my normal workshop for 2 tanks and a bren gun carrier so I will be building a new workshop at a yard I have nearby. the first stage was to clear the site and lay 8 ton of concrete to form a 9ft x 35ft slab which will be followed by another 2 which will give an overall floor space of 27ft x 35ft. after that i'll nail a few upright rsj's front and back and chuck the roof on and hey presto tank workshop rick
  8. just a few pics of some parts I picked up for lance while down on the isle of wight. nos pair of aircleaners in amazing condition and 4 x periscope assemblies still in the box
  9. no bother at all lance, i'm actually quite looking forward to a change from digging holes and un blocking sh1t pipes. :-D
  10. I wouldn't worry gavin there's enough idiots around willing to take on these old warhorses. I should know i'm one of them. rick
  11. don't get me wrong i'm no evel knievel but I can't see why we can't get a little air time in the old girl

  14. that's very gracious of you Adrian to leave the tanks to the younger generation :-D by the way I have a reflector sight in the box you if you need one. rick
  15. bloody good idea that is john. use someone else's tank
  16. Adrian stop whimping out with this arty stuff and get back on the good kit with engines and tracks.
  17. alastair you of all people should know how good the suspension is in the Cromwell ! I must admit I am sorely tempted to recreate the flying tank scene but I dare not take the risk but who knows I might do it on a smaller scale :cool2: rick
  18. I was down there on Wednesday and the museum s being refurbished ready to be re opened but with a slightly different focus on veteran rehab aswell as normal museum stuff so the future looks secure and yes the old plant stuff is still there along with the conq's rick
  19. an old joiner I used to work with told me about a heinkel that bombed denton golf course and blew up the grounds keepers hut all those munitions and tank factories and he blew up the golf course. maybe it was his first day out (and his last) he got shot down over Liverpool.
  20. i'll second that. all the new track I ever saw/fitted was painted in a black bitumen preservative paint. rick
