  1. No mention of the Mortar Carrier just the 'item', I get these and if you have the time they can be dragged down some time wasting procedures by you. There was a Ferret for sale and I asked if the Autovac was working well as the B60 sometimes has trouble with them. The reply was that he had had it serviced and it was working fine...........
  2. I need to repair the water pump on my 1928 Vulcan. Does anyone know where I can get some material to make a gland as the leak is quite bad. My 'Caxtons Modern Motor Engineer', a prewar 4 volume set of books mentions CRESSWELL as the correct thing to use but despite a web search I cannot find it. Is there another modern product that I could use ? Thanks Bob
  3. Thank you, I have plenty of hydraulic oil so that's sorted.
  4. I have been servicing my CMP Ford F60 and three of the 'vane type' shocker absorbers have no fluid in and one had some jet black gunge in it. The book says SAE 40 but what modern fluid do other owners use ? Thank you, Bob.
  5. I very much agree, they are utter rubbish...........
  6. Yes, just got past the X Craft attack, its very well written. I agree entirely that they really were 'heroes', unfortunately today that description of a person is over done.
  7. I was there on the Saturday and had a very enjoyable day. The displays of armour went very well, good driving of all concerned, I was impressed, thanks Stuart for organising a good show............ However, there is always an 'however. The First World war display was quite frankly abysmal, also embarrassing as well. There was a WD motorised tricycle that was described as a Ice Cream van, not told what it actually was. A display of firing a SMLE with ten rounds to show the rapid 15 rds per minute of the BEF, from memory the chap got to three rounds and had a stoppage, then was cheered for his efforts, why ? An attack by two waves of err five or six men, second wave were messing about with a rifle and should have moved off together. Afterwards they ignored the command to 'close in' and the words had to be repeated (with obvious annoyance) Finally the command 'order arms was given half of them 'sloped arms'. I know it is a day out to have a good time for everyone but it was just blinking awful.
  8. Just reading about the X Craft that severely damaged the Tirpitz. After this attack it was Hitler who ordered their production. Good video, pity about the bland 'musak'.
  9. There must be more than just 'knocked out'. Note there is no track on the right hand side but track can be seen round the left hand sprocket, Also there is a track laid on the engine deck, possible that it had broken a track which is then placed on the rear prior to back loading on the railway ?
  10. From where did you obtain the Ferret in the US ? The DA04 part of its number seems familiar to me as I sent over 50 of these vehicles to North America in the 1990's and early 2000's. I may have a photograph at my yard in the UK.
  11. I have to ask how did you manage a flight in a BE2e ? You lucky chap, I would give a crisp £5 note to do that..........
  12. Please PM me with you phone number I may have a few.
  13. I might be able to help, where are you located ?
  14. The Science of D Day, This could have been much better, a poor and lame script let it down. Errors besides the Churchill's rubber tracks; Donald Duck tank.......never heard that before Iron and steel, referring to a Sherman..............very little iron in it Lovingly restored................by 'Jonathan' Pearson, who he ? DD Tank Division................no such thing Operation Smash........it was Exercise Smash Ministry of Defence............should be War Department Landers..............a new modern word for Landing Craft ? Landing Carriers..........never heard that either Army Flying Museum...........The Museum of Army Flying Lewis gun on a LCA...........Not 100% sure on this one.
  15. Found this in my clearing out, no idea to what this is apart from a 'Radiator Oil Cooler' which is printed on the cardboard box. Also these details 2930-12-144-1844, next line B 0144-15-242-20. A clue is in this; Kloeckner Humboldt Deutz. Over to the experts.......
  16. Andy That's the critter........ I have had quite a few Abbots and that is why I still have a bit of one. Thanks Bob
  17. I found this today but I don't know what it is......
  18. I saw them in use filling 432's at a visit to 1 Kings Mortar Platoon, October 1975. Remember thinking what a good idea.
  19. I have a 1918 .303 Vickers Medium Machine Gun that I may sell and to this end I contacted an auction house. This is based in the North East and I spoke to a chap who deals in the military side of antiques. He asked was it 303 (it could be .50 but unlikely) and was the magazine on the top, I of course put him right. We then got to the value of it complete with tripod and 50+ inert rounds he paused while he looked it up probably on one of those new fangled computers and came out with a value of £300, three hundred pounds! Despite giving him my reasonable views on value he was having none of it. It is a loss to me why reputable dealers/auctioneers employ people who obviously have no idea what they are talking about.
  20. Not what they were designed for, still children will play.........
  21. Thank you, I have never had an ARRV so I don't know how I ended up with it. Then again we all acquire stuff over the years but this one is a mystery.
  22. I found this today, probably post war but I have no idea what it is, has anyone ?
  23. Have we considered criminality ? A QM in an ordnance or transport unit has some tyres, engines, spares and hatches a plan with his storemen to bury items of value with a view to digging them up for later resale after the war. Times change and he is posted to say the Far East, upon his return the 'burial plot' is now inaccessible and so they remain to this day......
  24. Thought the music was out of character to the events. Also why show the blowing up of HMS Barham in the Mediterranean on 25 November 1941? Generally a poor effort.
  25. In the mid 1980's two Covenanters were discovered buried near Dorking. One was sent to the Tank Museum and the other is still there now under a vines. So things do get buried and decades later found..........
