  1. And if you actually wate your time & 'Go Compare', you will discover that it actually costs MORE to be insured with them. Than it does with your normal insurer!!....:-D It would indeed in my view though. Be an excellent investment in letting the Moustashioed Tw*t, have a belt of 200 .50" Cal Rounds fired at him. He can check the entry & exit holes. And, 'Go Compare'!..........:cool2:
  2. all sorts of mnaufacturers made them. Ralieigh springs to mind! (Wrong Spelling!)
  3. As Armourers, one of the MANY varied equipments we were responsible for in the Army. Was also Bicycles. Apart from the Para Bikes that are well known to all. The Bicycles. GS Mk IV & MK IVB, were the msot widely used throughout the Services. The basic differences were: One was Hub braked at the rear by back peddling. & the other had conventional Rod operated brakes front & Rear. We used to always have the 'Armourers shop Bike' (NO!, Not Her, she worked in the N.A.F.F.I. !) We would 'Source a frame' generally an old Civvy one from the local dump. And then Indent for any componante we needed. Bicycles in general terms had parts & componants that were manufactured to pretty much similar dimentions. So we would indent for handle bars, grips, wheels & tyres, Levers, seats Etc Etc. Until, you had a pile of parts sufficient to assemble a complete bike. This would then be VERY distinctly painted so it would be VERY readily identifiable & prevent some light fingered Harry riding off on it! The Bikes were riden daily, all over the camp & accross the Garrison area. Very usefull & well utilised for convinience. I believe now, only RMA Sandhurst has a large Bicycle pool where you can sign a bike out for getting around the large complex. All Bikes were postwar in Deep Bronze Green paint finish. Later examples ordered in direct from a well known British Bike maker. Later variants of these were cable operated brakes. ALL were all GLOSS Black. Hope this is of some small help to you?
  4. I wonder how cheap that was to restore her!.....
  5. Andy, I cant see that happening! There was request for info about the Dunblane 'incident' along the same lines. They put a block on that for 99 years! I wonder what they are hiding!......:-X The letter should provide clarification to any Officer making enquiries at a show. I recomend printing off a copy of the letter & keeping it in you vehicle Doc's wallet at all times in case of a stop!
  6. It's like an Old Friend it comes up for sale that many times!................................
  7. [ Underkegs, green, net, humungous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jhons, long, crotch defeating. ( when wet had this amazing capacity to deform to something else entirley) Oh Yes! I had completely fogotten about the good old 'Drawers, Cellular' or as we used to call them. Drawers ,Dracula'! I never ever had 'The pleasure' of actually putting any of the three pairs we were issued on my Body! I used to use mine on Bullnights for cleaning the windows! They bought the glass up admirably!..... In the Army our Plimpsoles were Black canvas. I was always amazed & felt sorry for any of the Prisoners in the cell at the unit when I was Guard Commander. They had to Bull (Sorry! HIGHLY POLISH!) these Pumps so they shone like best Boots! Have you ever TRIED to polish canvas to a HIGH state of shinyness? Scraped all the Paint of of the Polish tins & Polish the tin to a blinding shine also! You have never seen Galvaised Dustbins Gleaming like they were chrome plated either! & Brass Topped WOMBAT 120mm Wooden (Heavy!) drill rounds, all brass fittings polished to an extreme state of Shiney!....Good fun watching 'The White Helmet Display Team' (Prisoners) running round the camp perimiter track carrying said rounds, first thing before N.A.F.F.I Break as well! (The Poor Sod's!) As for the green long johns, Well, you havent lived till you have observed appox 20 plus squaddies getting in to these & pulling them up over thier arms & shoulders. So all you can see is Big Green Kermit the Frogs! 20 Guys all leaping along the wooden floored corridors in a race after afew Beers was Blimmin Hillarious! :cheesy: Oh Happy Days, where have they all gone?....Roll on Belters'', when the beer will flow, & so will the shared Memories........ Mike.
  8. ILL BET THE SHIRTS ACTUALLY FITTED YOU STRAIGHT OFF THE SHELF AS WELL! YOU MUST HAVE BEEN DEFORMED! HA,HA! NOTHING FITTED CORRECTLY UNLESS YOU HAD IT TAYLORED TO TO FIT YOU PROPERLY! I OFTEN WONDER WHO DESIGNED THE KF SHIRT & WHAT HE THOUGHT A HUMAN TORSO LOOKED LIKE! STRAIGHT SIDES & VERY WIDE, THEY WOULD ONLY FIT SOMEONE WHO HAD BEEN OUT OF THE ARMY A FEW YEARS & NO PT EACH WEEK TO KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF! LOL! THE MUCH LATER GREEN COTTEN SHIRTS WERE UNBELIVEABLE LUXURY AFTER YEARS OF ENDURING THE 'SHIRTS, KF'! I AGREE THOUGH, A KF WOULD INDEED TAKE A GOOD SHARP CREASED IRONING WITH LOTS OF SPRAY STARCH! THERE WAS A LOT OF 'IDIVIDUALISEM' GOING ON IN THE SERVICES, AS OLD SWEATS WILL ATTEST. THE SHAPING OF BERRY'S, THE TAYLORING OF SHIRTS, SEWN IN CREASES IN SHIRT SLEEVES AS WELL AS TROUSERS. THE WEARING OF OTHER SPECIALIST UNIT ISSUE EQUIPMENT. PARA SMOCKS ETC. THIS HAS BEEN PRETTY MUCH A MILITARY TRADITION AS LONG AS THE SERVICES HAVE BEEN FORMED. THERE WAS ALWASY SOMEONE WHO WANTED TO BE 'DIFFERENT', & STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD. STRANGE WHEN YOU CONSIDER ONE OF THE GOALS OF A UNIFORMED ORGANISATION. IS TO MAKE EVERYONE LOOK THE SAME! I TOO AM GUILTY OF THE ABOVE 'CRIMES' OF WANTING TO BE SMART & STAND OUT & BE NOTICED (HELPS WITH PROMOTION PROSPECTS!) BUT....WATCH OUT FOR THE RSM, IF HE CATCHES YOU WITH ANYTHING 'NOT ISSUE', OR 'ALTERED' ON THE MONDAY MORNING MUSTER PARADE. WATCH OUT!!!............:undecided:
  9. Congratulations & all the Good Wishes for the future. Good job you didnt get a puncture on the way to the reception. It would have played merry Hell with the brides dress, giving you a hand with the spare wheel!..............:cheesy: ATB:
  10. Shirts,KF = Shirts, Itchy Blanket! Bloody Horrible to wear & shrank a little each time you washed them! The much earlier brown ones were better IF, you could get your hands on them! They were a better wool material & If you shaved them with a razor to make them smoother. Were more comfortable in wear. In the field we used to wear jungle shirts which were cottern & MUCH more comfy! When I was attached the Para's, jungle shirts & OG Trousers (IF you could get 'em!) were the norm rather than the more flimsy Trousers,Lightweight. OGs could be taken off in the filed if wet with your boots still on your feet. Lightweights were not as gererously cut in the leg width & prevented this. An Impotant consideration in Combat! Keeping your boots on saved time & convienience. All Soldiers will remember how important is is to keep your boots on at all times. No matter how uncomfortable it may be when you wanted to sleep!
  11. At least you could fill your lighter convieniently!..........
  12. Og Dear Matt, You have been infected with 'The Disease' of getting involved with things Military! It wont be long for SURE before it develops into a Full Blown Involvement! :cool2: Wellcome to our World! Im sure you will love it!......
  13. I was very annoyed that my Personal Invitation didnt arrive! I assume it got lost in the post?.............. (I couldnt have attended anyway, I was at a Country Vehicle Show Instead. IE: I had a Previous engangment that I simply couldnt miss, could I?.........) :-D And my No.1 Dress Uniform was in the cleaners!........................
  14. Nah Andy, Remember. ANYONE can Rough it, It's the ones who use thier brains & make life comfortable for themselves 'In the Field' who reap the benifits! Why do you think the R.E.M.E Wagons are always the most Popular in the evenings!.... Come to think about it now, I sometimes forget my Brain!....:nut:.......(Where DID I put it? In that Ammo Box?...No..In That ration box?...No.........Bugger!) Now, how can I get this three piece suite in the Defender............... Mike.
  15. What ever happened to tradition? Its been Banned by the Minorities groups!............:red:
  16. The one thing that they can NEVER take from me on St.Georges day is: Roast Beef & Tatties! Lashings of Horseradish too! :-D
  17. Ohh you know me SO well Neil! (But your spelling still sucks!) :-D
  18. Generally speaking, it was the M16A1 for while then upgraded to A2 spec for safety & efficincy. The basic instant recognition features are: A 'Birdcage' flash hider rather than the earlier three Prong type. & on the RHS of the Reciever a 'Tube' like protrusion which is the Bolt, Forward Assist' Mechanisem. In General terms, The Marines, SAS & Jungle Warfare theatres are the standard issue units to use the M16 Rifle. I take it when you state 'Lanyard', you mean SLING? They WERE used in LIMITED quatities in Northern Ireland. Usually by a Special Forces (S.A.S) Attached Arm to a Patrol.
  19. It's Good to know that there are Still 'Stout Yeomen' in England. With the Courage to stand up & Defy 'Oppression' by 'Flying The Flag' in the face of Unpopular Opinion!
  20. Meticulous as Ever, Rob! Nice work Mate, so your a 'Tin Basher' as well Eh? :-D Well Done,
  21. I would have celebrated it but,I wasnt sure if we are still allowed to in the UK. With all the 'Political Correctness' & Rabid Rantings from 'Minority Groups' about how it Might offend them. I was most hesitant to fly the Cross of St.George flag as it has been reported in one of the Daily Newspapers in the Past. As A Symbol of The BNP! I simply contented myself with the Knowlege that at least we live in a 'Free Country'. (As long as we dont do anything Traditional & Upset any of the 'Minority Groups'!) Mike.
  22. They were NOT considered Multi-Fuel. Petrol ONLY! If it runs hotter they are actually more effcient! But basically, the ignition is obviously outside the main pressure vessel. So Unleaded extra heat SHOULDNT be a problem! :nut:
