  1. I stand corrected. Did RR not up the RPM on the B81 when they did the redesign increasing the power output and swept volume over the B80. When considering an engine swap it the useable rev range that matters I think, and when the revs drop how will the replacement engine recover to cruise. Where is the green band in the rev range for each engine. How many times do you run a vehicle flat out and for how long. I remember being told by a Daf salesman that to get the best braking effort from the exhaust brake you had to run the engine up to the blue range that was over 4000 on the CF and XF range. I never had the nerve. It has been some time since I have driven anything large but I remember mostly running in the 1100 to 1500 range most of the time.
  2. I think the RR B80 max rpm about 3500, the K60 about 2500 to 3000 Max and the Cummins 6BT ranges from 2800 to 3100 depending upon power setting.
  3. When they do you cannot see what you want to get at. Who a few years down the road is going to have the commputers to read the diagnostic? Or even get the warning lights off.
  4. It may be worth thinking about getting a new one made. As you have a one for a pattern that will cut the cost. If you look at the quallity of the one that was made for Daimler that took part in the convoy to deliver the bells to St Georges chappel at Ypers you will see what I mean.
  5. Welcome, with all of that history around you will need a reliable steed to investigate.
  6. Problem is some people go to see it Dunkirk and expect historical fact almost a documentary. Other people just go to see a story and do not even consider the facts, it is just a visit to the pictures. At least something is there to talk about. When the Americans rewrote history with the capture of a German U boat and the Enigma machine it was the same. I think the problem is the film makers and their backers they want to produce something to make money.
  7. That must be a fantastic feeling. Great job everyone involved. Looking forward to pictures.
  8. A L/R Freelander is in permanent 4 wheel drive, fitted with a Viscous coupling in the rear driveshaft.
  9. This is when the 3rd diff in the driveline comes into its own. If you take a standard set up with a lockable 3rd diff and do a test most notably on an unmetaled surface, A clear difference can be seen and heard in the drivetrain turning without and with it engaged. I used to run a Terberg 8x8 and one driver could break half shafts on the first corner when he went from the unmade opencast road to the metaled haul road then forgot to disengage it after use. When a multi axle vehicle is turning each axle is following a different arc therefore the wheels need to go at a different revolution to the next in line. Off road tyre slip evens things out but on hard ground that effect is lost so wind in a conventional driveline occurs and axle fight is the result. Leading to higher fuel consumption, high wear patterns and broken parts. With an individual drive on each wheel station either electric or hydraulic the problem does not occur but a different set of problems manifest themselves usually to do with heat.
  10. Later ones over here have Cummins 6BT taking over from the RR K60
  11. I think the banjo is made like that for support. To stop the flexy from breaking or rotating the banjo on rough ground.
  12. Sorry that is the neandathol in me. Measurements should be on advert. Any problem just email.
  13. I have some exhaust valves on ebay at the moment.
  14. If you have had the drums off, it may just be that the faces have got something in between and are not sitting flush.
  15. I have bled Hyd systems From the bleeder before but it is time consuming. You have to make sure that the brake pedal/cylinder is right back. Then start furthest from the reservoir push enough through to pass the T coupling, then go to the other side of the axle push it through to the reservoir. Then do the next closest axle. You must be able to catch the excess coming from the filler. It is usually better to bottom fill radiators the coolant pushes the air out as the system slowly fills.
  16. To find them at the right time is the trick
  17. Welcome. A photograph of the broken part may help to narrow down the search. Also any serial numbers of the truck and a photo of it could help.
  18. When BMW were running the L/Rover group they started to introduce technology and reliability a concept that was not really recognized at the plant. These vehicles were the initial leaders and there were some problems the third diffs were a problem area at one time. If I remember rightly the computer brain is in the drivers door. For its age it looks tidy. Eggs will only give you one meal, that will give for a long time. Pleasure or exasperation is in the future, Good luck, If it was not for pups we would not have Guard dogs
  19. Thank you for posting those marvellous pictures. They covey an air of organised tranquility with those bells waiting for their moment to Peal and make history.
  20. I know that you will do your best and treat the old girl properly.
