  1. Makes you wonder if there is something in the block restricting the water flow. I once had a problem with a V8 Cummins and got a woolly jumper out of the header tank, No one owned up to having one missing.
  2. I really like the steady as she goes attitude of this restoration. Top class work well documented, looks factory fresh. I am looking forward to the start up.
  3. Gasket nsn 5330 99 382 5617. Landrover 110 body panel. Any use to anyone?
  4. I do not have drawings, I can only give the o/a length as 30 feet fitted with Coles MK V11 Series 7 rated at 5 tons capacity at 7 feet 6 inches radius. These dimentions I have taken from The Observers Fighting Vehicles Directory WW11.
  5. Initially the rear bogie would be made to take twin rears. I think this thread will run for some time yet, just look at the information and pictures that are being shared. Great use of the Forum.
  6. Sorry just got lost in figures. Must be body width making the 4x4 wider
  7. Bit more digging, length 30 feet width 7 feet 9 inches height 14 feet 3 inches weight 15 tons 10and1/2 cwt.
  8. I have not even learnt how to text. A.E.C. 6X6 W/base 14feet 9and1/8th inches bogie centre 4 feet 3 and 1/4 inches.width 7 feet 9 inches. Last time I was at Elvington there was a refueller looking rather sorry for itself next a hanger.
  9. Patience is required, someone will have the information.
  10. AEC 6x6 is basically a pre war 6x4 fitted with a Matador front axle, There is a dispparity in differential ratios this is corrected with a special transfer box. I think it was very early Matadors that were fitted with the 13.5.20 tyres.
  11. May I add my condolence to his family. I only know what I have heard and read over the years he was a remarkable man. Few and far between R.I.P.
  12. Got some more bits, Light Lucas LUB332. Condenser inlet hose MSN 4720999940089. CAC103C249. Seal pack 2 part nos. 15 CM O/D 5330997913129 and FV2102903.
  13. Cairnryan is a different place now. I only went over once when the Ark was there and could hardly stand on the flight deck for the wind. When I was back in the early 2000ds doing a nightly trailer drop and swap there is a new ferry terminal and quay where the breaking quay was, improved roads all of the way accross.hardly recognisable.
  14. That was a laugh when they broke those up. They lost one off the barge bringing them over in the Baltic. They were not supposed to have any batteries on but one had a full compliment. A fair amount of damage was done to the barge while they pulled it off, see sawing it with the tug. There were some Russian Destroyers and Frigates also. They used the former shipbreaking yard of Hughes Bolkow, Battleship Wharf. When they left I was picking up an O and K excavator, A large black Mercedes with blacked out windows pulled up and three men got out all dressed idetically, Homberg hats and ankle length black leather overcoats, Just as I had imagined Maffia men to look. One stayed with the car the other two came over and one of them asked for the men who had been running the show I forget his name now. I told him I thought that he returned to Sheffield. One turned to the other and said "We will be going to Sheffield then" and with that they turned and left. This is not made up, it is just as it happened, one miserable wet day. Some submarines also went to Cainryan where they broke up the Eagle and Ark Royal.
  15. Sorry my throw away comment took post off topic. Someone in Russia has very deep pockets.
  16. I can see the benifits of leaving items in place, the other side is if some were recovered a land based perminent museum would have benifits as well. I am still trying to come up with a plausible suggestion for the mystery item in hold one.
  17. I think that makes 3 recovered from that ship, I have seem pictures of another 1 ashore on the dock. I wonder where they are now. Pity nothing can be recovered from the Thistlegorm. Great information, a good use of utube.
  18. AEC hub bearings were not much of a problem balancing the brakes and broken crankcase to block set bolts, then it was bearings in the double reduction diff that were a pain.
  19. I was looking for someone in Newbiggin by the Sea years ago, I went through a rikety gate to ask and there were at least 4 large Russian submarine engines in the shed and yard. What the story was I did not find out.
  20. Where in the country do you live ,there is a selection of refuelers at Langar airfirld near Nottingham, They seem pretty accessable.
  21. Just out of curiosity are there any plans to investigate the other target area, at the vineyard.
  22. From the days of music and relevant, well remembered.
  23. Could be Multiwheeler design built by SMT. 20 ton 16 wheeled low loader. I think the Albion was originally used to pull 20 ton trailers but was derated to 15 ton.
