Nazi gold train found in Poland?

Recommended Posts

Saw this on War history Online, but it's all over the net. 2 guys claim to have found a Nazi train in a tunnel, Even if there isn't a single gold coin, a "time capsule" train from 1945 would be worth a fortune. Clothing, documents, personal weapons, the rail cars themselves, hell even a singe Panzer, would be worth millions.

Greater chance of locating Supermarine Spitfires burried in Burma LoL
news just in, they found the Spitfires all boxed up and loaded on a train, all of buried in a rail tunnel . :D

These guys, having hired a lawyer and filed a petition with the local government, have spent a good deal of money to perpetrate a hoax (if in fact that's what this is). I'm inclined to believe there's something there, even if it's not gold bars

it was pretty amazing when they found the Bizmark, and then the Hood, and all the U-boats, even one in the Gulf Of Mexico. Of course every time they drag another tank or airplane out of a swamp or lake it's always really cool to see. This however could really be something special, a true time capsule like the world has never seen before short of King Tuts tomb.

I hope the Poles don't muck it up, I hope they do everything possible to preserve it and make it into a museum.

Polish army is cordoning off the area, I really hope it's just a military train and not a train full of Gold teeth pulled from concentration camp murders. :-( NO Gold would be best, just a historical find please.

  • Arkadiusz Grudzien, a spokesman for Walbrzych council’s legal office, said: “The train is of a military nature. There is no mention of valuables: just military equipment”
  • The lawyer for the two men, Jaroslaw Chmielewski, said: "This is a find of world significance, on a par with [discovering] the Titanic"
  • The Polish state treasure and culture ministry has been informed in case the find contains anything of value

A train full of HL210 engines, final drives, tracks and such would be great but

Or a lot of very old, nasty' designed to bang bits.
yeah I didn't even consider that but can you imagine. A few hundred tons of mortar and artillery shells, all sweating Nitroglycerin! :red: It would go from being the most important find ever to the most dangerous in about half a second. That much going off at once could take the top of the mountain off.

a Polish local tourism economy boosted too

Well, that area does need a HUGE boost (it is the least developed area of Poland I have yet to see, it was like stepping back 20 years), and I might even go back if there were something interesting to see. :)

Mr Zuchowski said information about the train had apparently come in a deathbed confession from a person involved in concealing it.

is it just me or does is it really starting to look like the Polish government is trying to concoct a story, and screw the 2 guys who actually found this thing out of their legally entitled 10% finders fee?

Main News last night, had a spokesman. Who stated that some kind of Ground Radar scans had been taken. & He had seen himself. That indeed a Train with Armour (Plated I should assume) fitted. And Guns mounted (AA One would assume) also,

Was in the Tunnel.

He also stated that He had seen platforms & other sideings in the scans.

They are not rushing into this find. because of the alleged contents (IE:Gold) on board. The train may very well be protected

By Booby traps. If it is there, then I assume the Military Ordanance Disposal teams will go in to clear it.

And knowing Squaddies having been one myself. Im sure that some small 'Souvieners' will disappear also!.......

I guess we will have to wait & see, what unfolds. If anything?...................

I know absolutely nothing about GPR (however in the past I have held CSWIP qualifications for NDT)

So I Google on GPR , and "disturbancies" LoL

----------

How deep can GPR “see” to locate targets?

Depth of GPR penetration depends on the material being surveyed and also upon the antenna frequency being used. For instance, GPR will penetrate ice, rock, soil and asphalt differently due to each material’s unique electrical properties. Lower frequency antennas will generally penetrate deeper, but there is a loss in resolution with the drop in frequency.

Soil conditions can vary greatly, which in turn affects GPR penetration. In general, dry sandy soils with little salt content return excellent survey resolution, but heavy clay-based soils are difficult to penetrate with GPR. In some situations, penetration depth may be limited to a few feet or less within clays, whereas pipes residing in sandy soils could be detected at depths up to 30 feet.

Your GSSI Application Specialist can help you find the equipment that is right for your project and profession.

However , in one press report - I did see photographs of a drilling-rig in use - so perhaps they have been getting the probe near , time will tell.

This radar record shows the feature (to the left of “A”) that was interpreted to represent four crushed, stacked cars.

================

Obviously to a untrained interpreter - then he will see readily observe a bogie mounted super-cannon on rail-lines complete with platform , or even crates of gold , high definition not needed LoL

Agree with Tony B the power of suggestion gets people going like nothing else on earth and its fuelled by those who want to believe. I just hope the aircraft museum don't throw a rake of money in looking for a rare aircraft that was giving covering fire while guarding it when it disappeared. War or not how the hell can you lose a train

Interesting story and we all want there to be something at the end of the rainbow !

the 2 guys may be very sure the squiggly lines on the GPR screen are a gold train but is it old pipe and some ore transport wagons ? ( innocent stuff you may find abandoned in a mine ) From what I have seen on the net about GPR there is quite an art to understanding the pictures ?

All those involved with this train during the war who survived would have been thinking, I could use a train load of gold to set myself up after this messy business is over, has all the removable valuables been dragged out years ago ?

Just saying Tho ! I want it to be exactly what they are predicting , only time will tell ? also interesting how various parties (aside from the finders )are positioning themselves to be the recipients of the contents even before we know what is inside ?

MOD managed to lose a Horse Box a few years ago. BP managed to have a 50,000 ton tanker stolen! :D
