fadedsun
Ever get hassled by the police? On our last field op we drove through the city of Gulfport, Mississippi..cops actually stopped traffic for us. We were warned to avoid crashes with civilian vehicles "Even though you will win, no doubt..." :-D It's pretty funny to be driving past civvy vehicles and the tracks are as high as the top of their car. They just look and gaze in amazement as 300 tons of armor and 4400 horse power rolls by

paulob1
police have no reason to hassle us if we are driving carefully, they like many people repsect our passion and the fact that we are doing no harm is excellent....we are also a bit of entertainment for the local public too
Marmite!!
Never had any problems... don't forget thaty we have quite a few Police Officers who are MV owners & are members of this forum :stop:
Degsy
Can't say I've had problems, in fact exactly the reverse, thumbs up, big grins and waves.
woa2
My experience with the Police and my MVs has always been OK. I especially remember the Guernsey Police helping when I had a problem with my WOT2, and they provided an escort for me back to the campsite, and also the Traffic Warden in Reading who wouldn't ticket my WOA2 as he thought it was too nice. Tony B
Behave nicley and smile, most Coppers have better things to do than hassle MV owners. They also tend to like MV owners when their in a hurry, one said to me recently 'At least you guys all seem to drive carfully and know whats going on around you'. I did point out with sixty year old steering and brakes, you do need to think ahead. :-D
andreadavide
The local Police here were used to turn a blind eye (and a deaf ear, I'd say) when I used the siren on my soviet 469B.... Andrea
LoggyDriver
I've only every been pulled over twice by the Police in 20 years of owning ex military vehicles. Once in a Lightweight after over filling the washer bottle. I went round a bend at it went all over my trousers. I was trying to wipe them with some rag to dry them out a bit and must have been weaving a bit. The copper thought I had been drinking until he saw my wet trousers.. I also got pulled in my Defender coming back from a fireworks display at Newbury racecourse. I was driving past a pub and they pulled me over and said that they saw me "come out of the pub car park" IDIOTS. This immediately got my back up. They obviously couldn't do me for drinking, so started looking around the vehicle. I pointed out that I had the MOT done THAT morning, so they were wasting their time. They decided to pick on my ATU making out that it would be bad for a pedestrian if I hit them with it. I then made them fully aware of my displeasure of being falsely accused of drinking and thought that they were trying to find something to do me on for no reason. I also spurted out a load of CU stuff. They promptly left with their tails between their legs. Apart from that, never had any bother. Willyslancs
broke down many years ago in the lakes in the dodge (fuel vapourising), copper pulled up, asked if we would be here a while as he would go home for his camera ! said he loved them ....... When Pete Gray was driving the dodge up from worthing to blackpool (1980) he was stopped and asked what it was and where he was goin as they had not seen one before...................... MARTIN CROSS
When I was taking my 101 for it's pre-registration MOT(so it had no number plates or tax disc), I passed an officer who simply saluted! When bringing a DUKW back down the M4, 2 traffic officers 'detained' us until we gave them a guided tour! M
rambo1969
Got stopped going into liverpool street stn to pick up my girlfriend by anti-terriost police once, thought to myself "what do they want", copper says to me, "ive got a lightwieght mate and i'm having real trouble with the brakes!". 30 mins later we are still chatting and said girlfriend is on the mobile to me asking where I am!! As I left, the copper says " do me a favour, get some road tax on it!!!"
LoggyDriver
No way. Some funny stories here. I remember attending Tilbury Fort years ago. We decided to travel up to the Tesco's or Asda's up the road in an Abbot. The manager came out with his walkie talkie to see if the tracks were tearing up his car park. The place emptied of kids in seconds and we were mobed. WE only went up there for some beers. :-\
Glyn
Whist attending a local show. We took the Ferret for a blast around Canterbury ring road on a Saturday Evening a few weeks back. We got followed by a police ARV with 4 up for about a mile before they stopped us. After checking that the ferret was insured ('cos I had forgotten to refit the civvy reg plates) The nice policeman asked if he could have his photo taken with the vehicle. One copper taking photos, one in the turret and two hyenas in the back of the police car..... Traffic backed up in both directions.:-D Then my commander askes for directions to the nearest bank. He waits for the copper to start giving directions before replying "These make terrific ram raiders, you know"! Cops told us to bugger off, never mentioned that we had the 30 cal uncovered too.
