Recommended Posts

Trying again with these as a thread I posted yesterday seem to have vanished or been moved. (Mods. -any ideas?).

Anyhow a few tasters here but the full sets will be on the links, added to as time allows.

Good photo's Did you by chance get any close up photo's of the Dukw's on arromanches? Excellent photo's

Thanks you

Al

I do have some more photos of the Dukw's but they are all from the same point, however taken with a different camera. Not had chance to check them yet so there may be some better shots - will post eventually!

These were taken Sunday afternoon mainly during the vehicle parade organised by, I am told, the local MV club. Plus a few additional shots of veterans who were around, some poseurs and the (good)pipe band.

I have to say I am disappointed that the parade through a town liberated by the British was mainly of US vehicles with US occupants.. Nothing against them, but I would have thought for such an important occasion the effort could have been made to be, as I see it, more appropriate/relevant. Just a bit more of re-writing of history. It did seem that some of the French had a problem identifying with the British side of things. No problem being a Yank, loadsa problems being British. But then again am I really surprised?

Some good pictures there No Signals. Just wondering what time did this parade take place? As we arrived there just after 4 when it was supposed to start (according to CMV) but there were only a couple of vehicles around and it looked as if the parade had already gone.

PS. Would have replied to this earlier but have been away on hols :-D

Yes, 4pm was one of the the posted times we had, 3 was the other we'd seen. We turned up at 4(ish). Seem to recall just some period civvy cars lined up on the street and a few MVs in the 'arena' in front of the museum. From what I remember I think it set off a bit late - French wasn't it! and I think we had decided we'd missed it when suddenly things started happening. The bulk of the vehicles were lurking out of sight on the beach. You didnt miss much, just loads of jeeps and dodges, my mate reckons the best bit in the parade were the snare drummers in the band :-D

Oh right we did see a couple of vehicles in the square and there was also a singer on stage. But after about 30 minutes we decided that the parade must have already taken place. As we were walking back to the car though there were some vehicles who came into the town but we had already seen these at Bayeux in the 3pm parade.
