AndyFowler Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Nice one mate ! Any idea why the old girl has civilian plates and not got the normal military hook and eyes on the front ! Where they used for a specific heavier task or where Scammell just offering them to the military to get shot of them do you think ? Quote
Richard Farrant Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Any idea why the old girl has civilian plates and not got the normal military hook and eyes on the front ! I don't think they were used by the actual military, but by one of the establishements, probably MVEE / RARDE, etc. Note it has civilian headlights and fuel tank as well. Quote
nptimber Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Think they opererated out of shooburyness gunnery ranges the other one being LOO512V which now lives in R.E.M.E museum bordon in the care of john atlee. Quote
antarmike Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Am I right in thinking that John Atlee borrowed a Crusader from the REME Museum, to move their Cent ARV around on their Artic Dyson, and this was actually an Amazon? Quote
ekawrecker Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Correct Mike, it's a CR100 Amazon. The one pictured at Withams is now being restored back to the correct blue colour by a chap in Kent. Quote
antarmike Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Who has a piccy, or can say why they have it? Quote
ekawrecker Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Who has a piccy, or can say why they have it? Do you mean the FVRDE/RARDE/MVEE? As I understand it, they had both of the Amazons (LOO/YPL) and their trailers for moving new or modified tracked vehicles, guns, etc from Chobham/ Chertsey to various ranges and other places without having to rely on other Army regiments. radiomike7 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Heres another blue one ! I viewed that one Andy but it glows in the dark. I seem to remember it had nominal mileage, about 11k. Quote
baldsparrow Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 As I'm new to HMVF can any one tell me if the Amazon reg YPE that was in Kent been restored? I used to drive both LOO 584V and YPE from Chertsey, YPE came to us from Shoeburyness sometime around the late 1970s and LOO remained with us until passed to the REME museum around 2001. Both vehicles differed in certain respects and they both had different trailers, we disposed of them once we had the then new ERF and Andover trailer up and running which has itself now gone. Chertsey finally closed it's doors as an MoD site on 30th January 2004, I was the last one out and I made a point of turning the light out. Quote
radiomike7 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 There are photos of them both on the CCMV site, not sure of the dates though. http://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk/p221652648/h3FAE6A14#h3fae6a14 Quote
