  1. One difference between the 46ton wrecker chassis and the 65ton tractor unit is the brake chambers- the wrecker has type 24's and the T/U has type 30's.
  2. Nice job Simon, a most enjoyable thread. It's great to see an artillery Martian being restored to such a high standard, and with the Rolls Royce petrol engine too! :-)
  3. Fascinating reading Adrian, thanks for the update.
  4. That cab was sometimes known as the 'Club of Four' cab as Volvo, Renault, Iveco and Daf all used versions of it on their trucks in the '80s. How long did it take to get those pesky studs out Mr 'Bartron'? lol
  5. 66GT67 is now owned by Garratt Commercials of Sparkford, Somerset and is painted in Red/Silver nowadays.
  6. Thanks for the info and tips Mike, I guess what I never knew won't hurt me when I go next year! Jonathan
  7. Very Nice indeed! I was going to go to Locomotion this year, but it clashed with a show here! I'm definitely going next year though. Did you enjoy it FV1604A?
  8. Feraille=Scrap? Yes, I'm afraid it's gone already and is probably part of the Birds Nest stadium in Beijing by now.
  9. Hi Gordon M, it was in the Dundee suburb of Lochee and it did come from Pitlochry. It was pretty rough and it's now been weighed in for scrap when it was £200+ a ton. It would have been nice if someone had taken it on for restoration as Federals are far less common than WLF's. Regards, Jonathan
  10. Thanks Tony, I don't know what I was thinking of! Old age I guess?.........I'll get my coat. Regards, Jonathan
  11. A rare truck was this WW2 Federal 606 Type C-2 Wrecker I took a photo of in Dundee a few years ago. The original petrol engine had been replaced by a Gardner Diesel and the wrecker jib had been shortened by the looks of it.
  12. I've just found this picture of a CX22 I took at Doune near Stirling in the mid 80s. Most of the interesting vehicles in this yard disappeared a few years later and I've no idea if this survived.
  13. I took these photo's of TKN in the mid 80s at Ruthin, and they show the largely original condition and Clydd's home made crane to good effect. Clydd was indeed a 'real engineer' and his modest sized workshop boasted some fantastic pieces of engineering machinery, that would make light work of even the largest of diesel engine reconditioning. Clydd also ran an Albion CX22 converted to a breakdown, and I will post the picture of it that I know I have somewhere when I find it!!
  14. This one's a 400 model, and it's towing a trailer that would have originally been coupled to a 20 ton Scammell Crusader unit.
  15. Vent assy (L.H) -Door Window........ 41008882 Vent assy (R.H) -Door Window........ 41008883 Silencer (Chiswick and Wright No. PR401)......... 41015350 I have a parts book for the Scammell/EKA if you need any more numbers. I also have a couple of vent glasses but the frames are gone as they normally rot away. (like most of the rest of the Motor Panels Cab!) Regards, Jon
  16. I'm pretty sure I saw this about 20 years ago at the 'Doune Motor Co' near Stirling and I was told it was used by the Albion Works Service Dept in Scotstoun, Glasgow. This might explain why it's a hybrid! I think it looks like it's based on a CX24S, maybe with 'other bits' that were lying around the factory added on.
  17. Nice job Simon. The end result looks really good and a great improvement. It's nice to see the Militant taking shape. Jonathan
  18. Yes, the 6x6 version of the Contractor was called 'Explorer'.
  19. Thanks very much for posting your pics Davie, excellent views.
  20. Thanks for that link Davie (although the pictures seem to have dropped off the thread), there was a lot of great stuff in that yard and when I visited again last August it had ALL gone! I'm looking forward to seeing any pictures you might have.
  21. Nice to see what you're doing Davie, keep up the good work. Do you know what happened to the CX22S's that were at Cuthbertsons of Biggar, which I suppose is quite close to you? I took this picture in the late '80s.
  22. A very interesting vehicle, esp being a short wheelbase 3 way tipper, I'll certainly be looking forward to its completion. I see it's got an auxillary low range box fitted which I believe is quite easy to turn round to give a bit more speed. Keep up the good work 'Swill'- I will let you know if I come across an Edbro 3 way body, but if it's still attached to a Militant, I'll be buying it complete!!:-D
  23. Thanks for the link to Will's Albion 6 X 6, very interesting..... ......oh and sorry I'm an insensitive rotter! lol
