Bar grips or run flats

john fox

Question

Apologies for returning to the tyre theme but are bar grip tyres interchangeable with run flat tyres on armoured vehicles?

Eg Can post war vehicles such as Ferret or Fox use bar grips instead of run flats or is the load rating too low for the vehicle's weight?

I need to find some 11.00 x 20 and can find bar grips easily (since they fit lorries) but, as is well known, run flats aren't around anymore

Unless already on the side wall you will need to check the load rating of the tyres with the manufacturer. Most have web sites witth the details on.

Other owners have already done what you are suggesting and unfortunately its the only way forward. In time all British war-time and post-war vehicles will end up with historically inaccurate tread patterns on.

John,

I guess these are for the Fox? It will look a bit daft with bar grips, but a standard fitment tyre was the Michellin XL. Most restored Foxes have these fitted. Talk to Lee about changing them though!!
