Yes a FV610 Armoured Command Post, not a Pig. But Martin did say he was glad he wasn't asked any questions about it ;)

Martin, have you got any more pictures to share please? Not to pick holes in, but it is of immense interest to see these vehicles in their original habitat. As in-service picture is worth so much more than a picture of a rally field.

Right, I will dig some out. Most of them will be MP related. :)

Martin.

Found some interesting video footage from Operation Banner, it is titled "A british soldier" and shows lots of clips from the troubles in Northern Ireland.

Particularly it mainly features Humber Pigs as vehicles go, and what looks like Clives RUC version, taking a right good pasting, then roaring down a road and smacks its way through/over a barricade.

The video is halfway down the page:

Adam, yes all good Piggy stuff there. Although the chronology is all over the place. Other than the clip of the prelude to BS, all the shots of rioting are aimed at the police & predate Op Banner (well just).

I have a strong suspicion that the RUC pig going over the barricade was mine. I say that because the paint pattern looks much the same as a shot I have of it later showing its no. plate. In the full clip, just after the pig goes over, there is a single policeman who suddenly finds he is alone the wrong side of the barricade. He fires his revolver in the air & scrambles to safety.

The earlier shot of a priest & a community leader in front of an Army Mk 1 is where they are asking the crowd to "go home" but the priest is shouted down by a trouble maker, well aware of the TV crew, is shouting to the soldiers "Shoot the priest, shoot the priest".

Paul don't believe everything you see in the films. BS predated the arrival of the first Mk 2 by about 10 months!

And It had bedford MK's on the streets! as well as HVVPK landrovers which again did not exista at the time! dont get me started on the kit that the Paras are wearing! shower of *%IT as would say in the forces! And worn/wrong stuff... That and the plot are a let down in that film. "sunday" by BBC2 was better but I cant find that now?

One of the films boasted that real locals were used & grew hairstyles of the time, together with the shops being painted to match everything in detail. Yet the events at the illegal assembly at the start, recorded on newsreel footage, were rather different to what was shown in the film, not to mention the Foden water cannon which transposed itself to a Saracen with a sort of hose pipe thing in the turret!

Advertised on Milweb as "Probably the most original and best Pig in the World" ! Comments...

Seems a sweeping statement, but probably could be true! I have watched this pig over the years originally registered as XOC431T & used by a well known dealer from the midlands. You can judge the date by the van next door!

App1310.jpg

It was painstakingly restored by someone in the Surrey area & recently he sold it in the MVT Green Sheet for somewhat less than it is now valued. But that's inflation for you!

It was indeed sold in 1967 but only realised £65 in those days.

hi gents, on friday evening i drove down to southsea, para show. and i was followed by the traffic cops, once on the field the police came over and pulled my pig apart, telling me , my blue light on the top was illegal, i had an orange becon sat on top working.? then the sargent asked me for my MOT. so i explained i didnt need one, and the DVLA had issued me with a tax disc, whilst there was one cop talking to me the other is reading a book on the laws of the road, as it where. at the end thay gave me a ticket for not displaying my reg number. £30. fine.my own fault for not turning my numberplate around. but thay where ruthless and even threw anti terorist laws at me. two cops on a big power trip,

Hi mate, seems not a very fun day!

The blue beacon is Illegal,Only in service vehicles can display blue, even fire engines privately owned etc have to remove them on the public roads (and yours should not have a blue one! they didnt! in NI! *shakes fist* haha)

Your vehicle is exempt from plating and testing due to the year, carry your V112 form with you saves lots of hassle if you are pulled over.

Shame about your plates, we have all left show grounds im sure displaying MV reg by mistake, I know I have

two cops on a big power trip

or maybe just doing their job...

BTW it's also illegal to have a flashing amber light in the way you were using it..

The only times when you can use your amber flashing light are when you are:

at the scene of an emergency wanting to let people know you are there

at or near an accident or broken-down vehicle

towing a broken-down vehicle

In a vehicle with a top speed of 25mph

escorting a very long or wide vehicle (below 25 mph, unless you are in an abnormal load escort vehicle)

have special authority

yes i have read it now cheers mate. my vehicle has a note on the door saying this vehicle should not be driven above the speed of 20mph so the orange beacon was legal, its wide. as it has wings , and often brakes down, then starts again and i get a bit further , :argh: and im the abnormal load:-D so that covers the light, but thay could have been a bit nice and not treated me like a fool,

Wow! thats an interesting photo, im not up on artillery pieces, but it is unusual to have pictures of pigs towing stuff. I have often wondered if they were used for towing Arty about.

Must of been taken just before the Pig was pensioned off, possibly Germany circa 1967 as there is an FV432 Lurking in the shed behind it.

Always thought the uses intended for (mK1) Pigs in Germany BAOR to be interesting.

Great pic Alan. Do you have a link for the site, i will go have a look (Im off work, coughing and dribbling, nothing better to do!)
