Bazz
Hello All, I'm collecting info on the 11th Armoured Division. what I'm after is a list of the Numbers displayed on the front/rear of vehs within the Division. I've only been able to find out the main ones ie Armoured Regts and Inf Batts what i'm after are the ones for the support troops such as RMP RA RAMC RASC Armoured Replacement Sqn. I've read a number of books, contacted Bovvy and can't get the support Nos. any help would be appreciated. Baz.
LeeEnfield
Hi Baz. Good choice, :-) Ref no's, not at all easy to find, as you've found out; Case of old pic's etc, also wading through books such as 'British Military markings 1939- 45' by Hodges and Taylor; What vehicle are these markings to go on,............as you appreciate, differing sections used different vehicles. My MW is marked up RASC 11th Armoured Div, carrying the no 82 within RASC two colour wing mounted unit 'flash'. this corrisponds to Armoured Divisional Transport Company. (era I enact is post Operation Epsom, up to and including the relief of Antwerp 1944) Give me a shout for any more details, wanted. All the best Andy
Tony B
Have you looked in Jean Bouchery's book The British Soldier volume 2 ? Publisher Historie & Collections-Paris. the answers are in there.
AlienFTM
I think some of your problem comes down to the fact that any published wartime photo will have passed through the hands of a censor who will have scratched out exactly these markings for security reasons. Markheliops
Hi Baz. My Ward La France is marked up as 11th Armoured Div, A Company 133rd Armored Ordnance Battalion. Try this link as it names all component elements of the Armored Divisions in World War II. http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/lineage/cc/adcomp.htm Try this as well - History of 11th Armoured Division. http://www.11tharmoreddivision.com/i_ourhistory.html Markheliops

Taurus Pursuant. ;-) S'funny,....(well its not, if you know what I mean,) history etc is easily available for american armoured div's,............but NOT for Brit ones. :dunno:
LeeEnfield
http://www.spearhead1944.com/brpg/br11.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_11th_Armoured_Division http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/98/a1324298.shtml The above are interesting top peruse, containing snippits in regards to The Black Bull, Div. As Tony B has already mentioned, Boucherys book does contain quite a lot of info. For history of said Div, as already mentioned, get a copy of Taurus Pursuant. (keep an eye on Ebay for orig copy, or worldwartwobooks.com do a reprint) Also Patrick Delaforce, The Black Bull, is a good informative read. Have Fun................ All the best, Andy
abn deuce
On the other hand you in the United Kingdom can get the full history of your vehicle use in your Military and We can not get any such details on American Military Vehicles . Nor can we run tracked vehicles on public roads unless in a parade.
