Richard Farrant
Don't you mean Eurostar and what if the tunnel operators go on strike? Royal Engineers take over, they have specific Railway Companies trained for this.

ArtistsRifles
What happens when Brexit competes and they have to run the gamut of French customs?? Assuming they don't get impounded and destroyed due to the French weapons restrictions, by the time the paperwork is sorted the RusFed Army will be sitting outside the port waiting :-D :-D

French customs are a stroppy lot anyway.:-D Though I am reminded of the story of a D-Day veteran who when his passport was questioned replied 'You didn't bother with a passport the last time I came over'. Grasshopper
I thought the vehicles wern't train gauge anyway? Eurotunnel is built to a different space envelope than the national network. The tanks would have to be transported by road down to the train in Kent. I believe that the UK rail gauge (space envelope, not track gauge) was one of the limiting factors in WW2 British tank development, due to it limiting the size of the turret bearing. The lines of the former South Eastern section (Hastings line and thereabouts) required special narrow bodied stock to fit through the tunnels. They had been built very cheaply, with not enough layers of bricks. When they began to fail, additional layers of bricks were used to line the tunnels which made them narrower. Some tunnels had to be single lined in place of the original double track.
Tony B
Thanks for the clarification. When are you going to start on an armoured train then? :-D
