Looking excellent.

Can you buy imperial size metal stock in the UK ? Or has the steel market  been changed to the EU metric standard.

It is all metric here, since + 40 years , an absolute pain when working on older projects like WW2 vehicles. Unfortunately German vehicles are not too common here !!!!!!!

Hi Mike

In the UK you can easily get imperial tube and rod. Virtually all the angle iron is metric and nearly all sheet is metric. You can also get some imperial bar, but this is generally in short lengths. You can get most brass items in imperial or metric, I think that this is because a lot of model engineers work in imperial units

Cheers

Hi

Bit of time spent making the pick&handle brackets, the shovel base support and the "oil can" holder. Don't think that anyone has ever worked out if it is for an oil can or something else.

Sorry Richard, I was not able to read your posts for the last couple of months. I love all the copper work you made. It's fantastic. I had to show it my father who was a plumber for many years. He was amazed about all the precise work ...!

So that's two compliments at the same time!

Cheers,

Danny

Looking very nice. Are you having a canvas cover made ?

Hi Mike

Yes I will get a canvas made, there are 4 hoops.

The canvas is tied to hooks and eyes on the bottom bar, I have made these, but are not yet fitted.

IMG_7477.thumb.JPG.4f75ccf282942b63242c9a253fc03d80.JPG

On the "original" there were 5 unevenly spaced hooks, I will be putting a couple of more on and making them evenly spaced. The rope eyes go at either end.

The supports for the hoops have now been welded on, you have to fit the rear support tube bracket on before doing this as it sits between two uprights ...

Tha main thing is to make sure that they are alll in line...

IMG_7480.thumb.JPG.0d4d04aa8c6e9154cfb1613e13ccef44.JPG

I will be starting on the hoop sticks tomorrow, so watch this space

Hi

Whilst waiting for some more pipe to be delivered, I thought I had better start finishing the suction hose filters and strainers.

I have been looking for originals of these for a long time but none have come up for sale, the originals look like this...

So I thought I had better have a go at making these...

Not an exact copy but will do for th time beingIMG_7387.thumb.JPG.1ff64e2c385a976075260a80a6c14a58.JPG

What did your jig look like? I've got to make hoop sticks etc for the C15.

Hi John

Quite simple, two flat plates with four guide pins through them, these hold the three rollers. Two 3/4" stainless steel bars held 2.1/16" apart and one 1"  stainless steel bar. The supports top and bottom are there to ensure the rollers are held square.IMG_7565.thumb.JPG.ca1dbaa8da728d18bdb4997859feb792.JPG

The roller supports are shaped so they don't interfere with each other when pressed together (this idealised CAD drawing shows this a bit better

jig.jpg.87e9351cc82ee16c02017f4947f732e9.jpg

The round tube is put through the jig and then tighetened up in a vice, two of the guide pins are used to "square up" the pipe. The distance between the pair of rollers is fine for 16SWG, for thicker walled pipe this would have to be increased a bit and a press used.

IMG_7564.thumb.JPG.31bc1787c23a31a4e5ff1b8c864c0cb7.JPG

You have to be careful measuring the distance between indents as the pipe length shrinks due the flattening and bending of the pipe (appx 1/4"). With the benefit of hindsight, I should have made all the "stringers" first and spaced the hoop sticks accordingly. I did have to adjust the length of a couple of "stringers" which is a bit of a pain.

Cheers

Hi

A few more ancillaries have turned up

Float and Strainer (still looking for another another strainer) [hose and home made insert to show how it all fits together].

Hi

The top spring clips on the set of springs I have were missing, so finally got round to making them, these are what they are for

971042764_SpringClips-Copy.thumb.jpg.147d2ea0523cd73feafc8b6152485ef0.jpg

Simon Warner kindly lent me a spring clip to copy, cut 6 blanks (2 spare in case of mistakes)

IMG_7596.thumb.JPG.9aee656e26dfab847d0fe353fccc5590.JPG

To make life a bit easier and to ensure that they all come out the same, I made a simple(?) jig

IMG_7602.thumb.JPG.d0f6805acc18751e491355b4cdb1fcae.JPG

it works like this, stage  1 - the fold up (shown on a finished clip)

IMG_7603.thumb.JPG.b846bb3753c901ff7147df498b311f83.JPG

stage 2 - the wrap round the spring eye (also shown on a finished clip)

A trip to the local blacksmiths

http://www.littleduckforge.co.uk/

IMG_7597.thumb.JPG.07f429baa9cdbbab2f62939ba7754f42.JPG

very helpful and sensibly priced (I have used them before and can highly recommend them)

All came out nicely

IMG_7598.thumb.JPG.64516a2d9aad289ca035a92baafa856d.JPG

IMG_7599.thumb.JPG.273b3213a18878136062c4090920b0a2.JPG

the original one is on the far right

A bit of fettling, slots cut etc.

IMG_7600.thumb.JPG.ad0ca6893020447774682b844fa953f9.JPG

IMG_7601.thumb.JPG.4b32e4f2425a416328bfdff9419aefae.JPG

A bit more fettling needed, "U" bolts to thread cut to length, small plates to cut and drill. Hopefully will get this done over the week end so that they can be fitted next week. Will post a few photos when all done

Cheers

Hi

Makes a big difference when the canvas is on

IMG_7659.thumb.JPG.7a588a832275836f4848e33f16da47cd.JPG

IMG_7651.thumb.JPG.9cdde6ae7c32800e0169fe2ef95c7839.JPG

Just a few more canvas bits to make up, and then work out what padding to use on the seat backs.

On to electrics, whilst wings are at the grit blasters

Haven't posted for a while, but finally took my MWC to Southwick D Day Revival Show, sill plenty to do and the engine is not running well, think it is the carb...

Had a quick photoshoot at Southwick Park  House (Allied Commanders HQ) north of Portsmouth where the Allied Commanders met in the lead up to the D-Day invasion of Europe.
