protacman
Hi everyone At approx 1430 today my Mk 11 moved on main gearbox for the first time in 7 years To achieve this I changed The gearbox controller (was OK) Dashboard (broken gauge) The main engine switch board (switch gone) The solenoid block complete (busbar gone, solenoids rusted) I serviced the Hull main junction box The hull rear junction box handbrake micro switch And I had to learn all about the wiring loom I got some great advice from all on this site and assistance, Thank you all. Last thing the N line in the solenoid block to get the solenoids to work i had to earth this from the N terminal to the gearbox, so the last problem is tracing back this line all the way From N terminal to ?????? Anyone know where it terminates and how it gets there And could i just earth it to the box permanently

N.O.S. Anyone know where it terminates and how it gets there? And could i just earth it to the box permanently No speciic knowlege of these beasts, but isn't this an example of the army method of wiring each neutral back to the battery negative to give a fully insulated sytem, as even on trucks etc etc? (i.e. double pole bulbs etc) I thnk it was to do with radio sets or something? :dunno: In which case you should be able to run an earth back via the hull so long as the battery pack is connected negative to earth on hull too? Would be interested to learn more from "them what do know"!!!
protacman
I think your right everything wired like a house to stop interferance or if the hull got a live earth (a live shorted to the hull)could it feed back and operate a circuit?
Grasshopper
CVRTs are all earthed to the hull. If there was a live feed to earth, then cicuits should not operate as there would still be no earth for them to operate through, as it would now be live. In any case, fuses or MCBs (don't know if Chieftains have them) would trip/blow if the current draw to earth was too great.
ferrettkitt
Hi I believe not seen with my own eyes only google earth that there 'r' three Chieftains plus another two military vehicles in a yard in Eccles / Manchester. I saw the recovery version in a yard in Urmston a few years back. Still there? I've been meaning to go and have a look haven't got round to it yet. protacman
I've tried to google here but there is no definition
Grasshopper
I know a guy in that area who had a couple of chieftains as well as a whole lot of other stuff. He ran a driving experiance for a while. He has sold the Chieftains but still has a large collection af armoured vehicles.

protacman
Ok, here we go again I've decided to get the turrets working now As it stands 1st Tank, the new one. Psu starts light gos out ,turn knob to non stab, metadynes start ok. Commanders or gunners thumb controller doe's not control any turret movement. Gunners,There is a loud click when you pull the lever but no movement. Commanders, there is a loud click and as soon as you pull it the gun depresses without command 2nd tank, the mk 11, the psu will not start pictures to follow
Mark
Good luck Sean and keep at it

The clunk sound is GOOD though!! Shows a good contact, but just out of interest, which sort of duplex hand controls do you have on that one? The newer tiny thumb joystick, or the older type where you pull the trigger and move the complete handle up n down n side t side? Wish I could come n play ...I really do miss the old girl!! Sylvester
PS. Further thought...Don't happen too often!! The gunners stab control is the best place to start, does anything operate differently when you select Stab or non - stab, reason I ask is that on one of ours, the system would stabilise fine in non stab but not in stab!! Also, not teachin ya t suck eggs... but you are holding the metadyne start up switch for a good 20 to 30 secs eh? Up and Down? ...And ya little red light has gone off before ya sstart to try eh? :-D They can be tempramental little darlings! protacman
yes fred, about the start up i learnt that the hard way hold until you hear the metadynes start after waiting for the light to go out on the psu I'm missing two fuse's and caps from the PSU in the mk 11 anyone got any? doe's the turret batteries play a big part in the performance of the gun kit? Sylvester
As far as I can recall....No! ...But...Might not be a bad idea to fit them if you can? I was on chieftains in service but they were at that time Mk 3s & 4's!!! They may have changed various parts on the system from those days! The turret batteries were mainly for running radio's, boiling vessel etc when you could not have any engines running but... If you can get them, I would fit them! Sorry I can't help any more mate...wish I could come n get my hands dirty on her with you! All the Beast Fred
