  1. Hi again and thanks for pointing me in the direction of the foden forum. As for cost as long as the vehicle is complete and can be "used" as it was originally intended for then cost is an issue but what is more important that i get a vehicle which is fit for for purpose. Do you know of anyone selling ??? Thanks in advance
  2. Hello all, Hope all is well with one and all. Right i,m wanting some advice ( and i have come to the right place!!) I am wanting a recovery vehicle of some description along the lines of a foden ( as used by reme etc) or i have come across a foden fh70 gun tractor . Question is it will be put to work and not adorned so to speak. Does anyone know if a: fodens have been released b: does anyone know where a vehicle is lurking that could be purchased? I look forward to all replies thanks in advance. Regards, Kev Walker

  10. Pete , Just had a thought (thats scary!!) if you send over the broken casting to me i will make you another if that would help. let me know and err won,t cost you anything i will "bank" a favour with you :-D Cheers, Kev Walker
  11. Hi Sean, Ok from you have said i think the problem still lies with the emergency gear select. With the long cover off it is the first contact on the far right 2 upright copper contacts and a blade passing through them ensure that these "spring out" as the tufnol blade passes through them. I would love to come over and get my hands dirty but alas you are a bit far away:(. Could you get a picture of the the contacts? As for the dial not working try all the connections down in the drivers foot well also check all breakers in the rear "bus bar" i think there are fuses as well. Do you have any wiring diagrams? do you want some? Talk soon feel free to email me direct and i can give you my phone number if you want to try and talk through the problem Cheers, Kev Walker
  12. Hi Again, Right the governor is located in the centre of the gearbox on top .follow the lead back to the connection box ( left hand side at the back if you are looking toward the back of the tank) 2nd plug down is the governor connection) if you remove it there and give it a try. the other place where you can disconnect it is the drivers footwell left handside you will see a bank of 2 pressue switches there will be 2 connectors going to this remove the lower one and plug it into the dummy socket (marked with a red border on the bracket). Ok oil filters are located within the gearbox itself look for a large oil line coming from the pump on the engine trace this back to the gearbox and you will see in the casting of the box a cylindrical area voila that is where the filters are loacted. I think they are commercially availble. Where are you based as if its not to far and could "pop" round. Cheers, Kev Walker
  13. Hi Again, Have just thought of summit else!! Have you tried disconnecting the governor? either from the the plug in the engine bay (2nd one down me thinks) or in the drivers foot well left hand side. Cheers, Kev Walker
  14. Hi again, Right here goes (wish me luck !!) we need to gain access into the gearbox so lets break it down into steps 1, remove decks (central ones) 2, remove silencer box by undoing 4 square flanges (4 bolts on each) and remove the 2 quick release connectors on other end . then remove 4 retaining bolts so as as silencer can be removed from gearbox. 3, OK so now look on top of box and look toward the rear of the box , you will see a plate about 3 inches high and about 10 inches long and it is held down by about 8 1/4 " nuts. Remove this plate and you will expose the electrical solenoids (sounds scary but its not trust me.) So now that the plate is removed and as you select forward/reverse emergency gears you will notice a "tufnol" block with a copper contact passing through 2 upright blade contacts. you will see that that when you are in emergency forward or reverse that in effect you are breaking all electrical contact to the gearbox. now i suspect that one of the contacts has got err "tired" and is not making good contact with the tufnol blade , you should see the upright static blades spring apart as the tufnol blade passes through them. if this isn't the case gently push it in so that you can see there is a good contact between blade and upright contact. 4, once you are happy replace cover plate and secure with 2 nuts.( you don't want to be spraying the hull with lovely sticky gear oil.) 5, start main engine and see if you can can select any gears, hopefully you can once happy reassemble and take it for a spin!! let me know how you get on. If above doesn't work please email me direct. Cheers Kev Walker
  15. Hi , Did you manage to get this sorted its usually the contact on the end of the emergency gear lever inside the gearbox , happened on my arrv , doddle to fix . let me know if you need any help cheers, Kev Walker
  16. Mark, I had a very similar fault on my arrv, after trying everything and i mean everything i lost the plot and kicked the rectifier panel through sheer frustration and yup you guessed it it has worked since ! After closer inspection there was a relay sticking in the rectifier unit. Maybe of some help or not Don,t you just love this green kit !! Kind regards,
  17. Hiya Chris, Many thanks for the offer but we are sorted now. We got the pack out and in about 6 hours. Not sure if it may have to come out again at some time. It is a 13A ( as it should be in the ARRV) but i am guessing its getting to the end going by the clock on it , so will be on the look out for a pack at some stage. I will post some pics and viseo when i get round to doing it. Also has anyone delved into TN12 gearbo before? Bye for now , Kev Walker
  18. Hi all, well pack came out after about 3.5 hours not bad huh !! :-o. Found the leak that took about 5 minutes! was a small pipe leading from the fuel pump. So tomorrow will be put it all back in, may have the gearbox out as we need to do some work on the brake cylinders , bit of a leak there as well. I will post some pics and some video when we have got it all done. still i guess something else will rear its ugly head , thats the thing with this heavy armour you find one thing and then something else decides to go wrong:(. Bye for now K Walker
  19. hi all, Well just to let you know the pack is coming out of the arrv tomorrow:(. It's leaking fuel like there is no tomorrow, and the annoying thing is i only filled it up about 3 weeks ago all 600 litres of the stuff , I will post some pics of the removal , anyone got any tips to make my life any easier? Will report back hope fully all in one piece !! Bye for now Kev Walker
  20. Well they look like planings to me , I am in trouble now !! lol  Regards, Kev Walker
  21. hi and welcome to this madhouse. I have not been here to long myself and already been told off for squashing the pansies in me arrv !! Oh and i,m still waiting for the duty chart as regards to the cleaning !! Kind regards, Kev Walker
  22. Hi again, Yes you are very correct chally 2 uses a perkins cv12 engine pretty much an "off the shelf" unit as i am told , a pack change can be carried very quickly too please correct me if i i,m wrong Mind you the power to weight ratio is alot better ,1200 horses bring it on !! the charrv is about 750hp so power to weight is alot less hence lots of broken power packs me thinks Kind regards Kev Walker
  23. Hi David, I,m not sure of it's history as regards to it being at Ashchurch, something tells it was. When we bought it it was pretty much all there ie everything was connected just needed to get it all working, god those winches are nightmare zero space to work on them! must dig out some pics of that one. Kind regards, Kev Walker
  24. hi all again, Well i guess it will be up for grabs one day, it will be a shame to see it go, there again i could always try and replace it with the chally arrv otherwise known as a Rhino . Hmmmmmmm thats got me thinking Bye for now
  25. hi all, I can only really comment on chieftain engines( maybe of some use or not) When the chieftains came into service there biggest letdown was the engine the leyland l60 . it wouldnt be unusual to have 2-3 packs while out on a scheme. over the years the engines were much improved up to the last mod making it a 13 alpha pack. Easily identified by a red rocker cover!! Even these engines are expected only to do 300 hours before the con rod usually ejects itself through the block! The most common problem with l60 ( and i have seen this happen, very scary!!) is the governor for the engine seems to go belly up and yup it runs wild, not for very long i hasten to add !! I will dig some info out if you are interested Kind regards, Kev Walker
