  1. Well it takes all sorts. :nut: Do you throw sweets to the kids from the vehicles? Ricky wants to revive that practice, so my friendly negbour hood corner shop ahs got me a couple of large bags of boiled sweets. Just got an email from the BBC, inviting me, in uniform to a concert on May 9th at Horsegaurds, free tickets to re enactors in uniform.
  2. Ithink that is the mains slave unit fitted when the vehicle is in hangar waiting for service. The idea is to ensure the engine is warm, the battery charged and the vehicle warm.
  3. Drive an Ambulance. Even Katy the WC54, despite my pointing out to DVLA it is really a van, has Ambulance on the log book. Tolls, what tolls? The Weapons Carrier at Dartford, I just used to give them car money , they always took it. Now it's very late, free, or a whole trawl through the internet to find the website etc. So much for 'As soon as it is paid for, free.
  4. More reliable, less prone to discharge when idle' longer static reserve of power. Over the last couple of years the new buses supplied to the company I work for had Optima. Problem has been when the buses is 'Idiling' on the stand, engine off but still needing lights inside and out the drain seems to cause the Optima to lose power quickly activating the power save and cutting all power. Also they don't seem that keen on really deep discharge. I must say using the winch with a dead engine, not the best practice I know, has had no noticiable effect on the Odyssey.
  5. It's not a launcher it's the carrying cradle! :nut: Obvious to us I suppose.
  6. What you mean the complimentary car wash and paddling pool?:-D Now starting to be very intrested in marine forcast, not long now!
  7. Odessey are the favourite of the internationl 4x4 racing fraternity. I have one on my Discovery, would love to be able to afford them on the Dodges, but you can't get 6 volt ones!
  8. Be aware Condor are keeping up their usual low standards. I have just got a text from them changing the sailing time of the ferrys on return to Portsmouth. Thank God Jersey Tourism chose a Flying Bannana! Check ferry times before you leave, especially if you take the fast ferry from Poole. Mind you, if the Donkeys didn't keep bashing the new boat about! :-D

  10. Yeah know the problem. A few years back the Garrison asked me if I could move a gun from Tilbury to Greenwhich for a RA Band concert including the 1812 Oveture,. So I went into the office at work and asked if I could change shifts to move a gun. John the allocator said yeah , lets have a look. Then we strted checking. At this point his secratary Lisa busrt out laughing. We both looked at her , she said you come in asking can you have time off to move guns. Anyone else we'd be phoning the Police, you we just expect it.
  11. Surley the M37 will tow it? I know a WC51 will tow them and limber.
  12. I've e mailed your question to a man who does know these vehicles.
  13. Thanks, I've never seen thsi before.
  14. Give her a new toy, she breacks it! :-D Good news is, a complete rebuild, should go like a rocket!
  15. Yes, the WC54 was also used as coding vehicles for the Special Liasion units that handled Enigma Intelligence.
  16. Is it a decent price, and does it run OK? My Dodges, the chassis have a build date of the 4th February and the 24th October 1944. Are they 'Totally original' I doubt it, actually I know there not, the WC51 Ruby has a Norwegian Dynamo dated 1961. Katy the WC54 has a 1952 rebuild plate. Even modern military vehicles are repaired , rebuilt , subject to mid life upgrades etc. Does it detract? Not for me, Katy has repairs to the bodywork all over her, they are part of her individual history and why she is diffrent from all the rest.
  17. A section of Zepplin propellor was valued on the Antiques Road Show at Chatham last year by Grahm Leys, a fellow MV'er at about £12,000 ! As the guy said '^&**$ me! I'd dumped it in the shed as a pice of junk'. :-D
  18. Ouch! This is the guy Phill used. Having seen and driven his work, the work is excellent. http://www.classiccarwebsite.com/john-kirkby-white-metalling
