  1. Try Cherised Cars. They covered me from pick up, to home.
  2. I was introduced properly to WW1 by the 10th Essex and Andy Robertshaw and the rest of No Man's Land. On the 90th Anniversary of the First Day as it happens. Respect for all combatants has been part of that ethos from the start. I would be dishonouring those who fell and those who mentored me if I thought any other way. My particular fascination is why do conflicts start? To have your hands in the earth and watch something come up is exciting, and uncomfortable sometimes. The oddest reaction for me was when at the site of an excavation of a mine crater near Passenchendale, the archeologists unearthed part of a horse collar. The site had been a farm. As you all know I trained at agriculutural college and am qualified with horses. The collar is the thing that transmits the power of the horse to the implement, they are hand made and cost a fortune. That someone who was a farmer would leave so quickly that something so valuable would be left behind struck me very deeply. It is only by trying to understand the motivations of individuals that you even stand a hope of realising what went on.
  3. Thanks for that. I couldn't find a picture. Funny enough a very close friend showed me a picture of her Grandfather. He is wearing uniform of the Duke Of Wellington's Regiment and the Pelican badge of the 62nd ( West Riding ) Division, which was Territorial Force, as it was then known, division. Initial research shows he was in Palistine, and may have been at Gallipoli. I shall wear my Poppy with pride on Friday.
  4. Welcome in. What are your interests? Then we can all get to arguing over the answers. :-D
  5. What an incredible piece of equipment. Good luck, what a project.
  6. Welcome in, though it's HMVF, if it has wheels, sometimes an engine :-D and is weird we like it.
  7. Yes the WC54, A closed vehicle I've a photo of No 6 SLU they had two WC54 a WC64 and a German Staff car. The SLU's were the units that recived the 'Product' from Bletcxhley in a diffrent Cypher, then dechyphired and passed the info onto the officers cleard to recive it. A lot of care was taken to ensure that the scource of ULTRA information was disgused to prevent any any hint of where it came from. I've a hypothosis that Rudolf Roessler's Lucy Spy Ring was a front to pass certain ULTRA information to Stalin, again in a disgused form.
  8. I know it's stating the bleeding obvious. But have you cleaned and checked any earthing points ?
  9. I paid £150 for my first Series 1 !!!!
  10. Chinese are known to be veeery sneacky! :cool2: Anyone know where you can get seed to grow your own?
  11. Pictures are still difficult to find, they were not encouraged. Phil's researching North Africa at the moment. Any 30 Corp vehilce would have the marking. The only thing that would donate Y Service personnel was a marking in their pay book, that in case of injury and treatment in hospital the must be returned to unit, not allocated to general replacement pool.
  12. More like spanner in hand and grease on the face. Welcome in.
  13. Maybe, she was trying to get you to tear your hair out Jack? :cool2:
  14. Spoke to Phil, Y Service used OY as transport trucks. Actually they had Carte Blanche to get anything they wanted. Markings on the vehicle would have been standard 30 Corp makings, the Black Boar. Vehicles carried no special markings, in fact for security there are pictures of Bedford QLR with canvas over the top half to make them look like GS trucks.
  15. A number of Golden Arrow, and WS10 sets https://histru.bournemouth.ac.uk/CHiDE/Oral_History_of_Defence_Electronics/ws10_intro.htm Went to Australia as support for the British Atomic tests.
  16. Probably the only profit in the venture. Unless they are applying for an EEC grant for Archeology?:cool2:
  17. There have been various 'Bog cogs' for Landies over the years. Wonder about fitting the bus with a set. Could stop idiots trying to undertake. :cool2:
  18. Had the Y fronts on backwards once when GF's parents came home early. Mind you if Nessie did get loaded any lurking Sub would have got one hell of a suprise. :nut: Wish you hadn't posted that picture though, I'll never think of Ivor the Engine in the same way again.
