  1. The thing about military vehicles is that they are tools. If something gets better the tool is upgraded or repaired, so after seventy odd years they are not the same as they came of the factory, each one is diffrent. Vive La Difference! Each one is unique, keep them that way. :-D

It's an epademic! I've just been told I'm going to be a Grandfather for the second time, all advice welcome. :yay:Still they will have one Dodge each, so both can take me in 2044.
  3. Thinking again, (It's the age you know) Though the brushes may look OK, worth taking the back off and checking the springs that push the brushes in to the commutator, they can stick. Clean the copper bands, don't us an abrasive that can clog the gaps and cause shorts, also check the end of the brushes haven't worn in a curve as that can make only a small contact area. Not a lot to go wrong on a Dynamo, the last one I know that failed had a bearing collapse in about 2005. Though the bearing was dated 1945.
  4. Found this site that gives nice clear instructions http://www.howacarworks.com/electrical-systems/testing-a-dynamo-and-checking-output One other quick check that would be worth trying is to repoloraise the Dynamo. BUT, VERY MUCH BUT, disconnect the regulator BEFORE re poloraising. http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/polarising-a-dynamo.php
  5. The 3B's of a dynamo. Belt, brushes and bearings. Loose or dirty fittings check earth as a matter of course, then onto the regulator box.
  6. Body is reputed to have come from a design originally used or intended as a taxi cab. Though It is a vehicle I'd love to own. :-D
  7. No :nono: Might give the dogs indigestion. Certain white transits now. That could get exciting.
  8. An object that ticks comes to mind, or the nearest long distance truck.
  9. Ugly! :wow: Form follows function, and they were based on a Taxi. :-D
  10. Normally the problem is the spring has got rusty or tierd. Open up and clean.
  11. I still think cases of Unicorn Dung. Anyway Meschersmits surley.
  12. Can you post a picture? Some old horns are reasonable easy to strip and clean, depends wether it is a metal or , can't think of the name of the stuff! diaphram like old telephones.
  13. Honest reply, what amount you can get out of people. The Dingo is a bit of a specialist market, Jeep possibly worth more in parts. Bike has two markets, military and Motorbike. Decide what you want, add a thousand or so. If that seems a reasonable figure, then you have room to haggle. Would be worth seeing if the Dingo engine at least turns over, if not actually running. Otherwise the first thing a potential buyer would say, and if you were buying it would seem reasonable, 'All it is is a large paperweight'.
  14. Heres most of the info you need. The company supplies as well. http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/file_uploads/flexible_battery_cable_data_.pdf My one suggestion, put as many Earths on it as you have cables and bolts to attach to. You can NEVER have enough earths!
  15. Took a trip down to Bateman's (Rudyard Kiplings' house) World War 1 event on Sunday. They have just started a second hand bok shop. So with my intent to clear up and down size. Bought the full set of Hillaire Bellock's Land and Water. A WW1 magazine parodied as Belary Helloc in the Wipers Times. Seven volumes just dipping into it there are so many pices about all aspects of the war. In later copies there are advertisments and a Ladies Page, advertising the 1918 equivalent of Ann Summers. :cool2: Lots of Dunlop and Burberry ads. I'm currently trying to find articals on vehicles, but it's a deep hole to dig in.
  16. Yeah, but some people did get the Snipe. :-D In this case though probably more of a Unicorn hunt,
  17. Welcome in, but what makes you think you will ever stop, rebuilding a Land Rover? :-D
  18. I trained there many years ago at Talland. Happy Days, with the JAMC across the road, and of course, the Eliot Arms.
  19. Would solve Mark's neighbour problem them! :cool2:
  20. Where abouts was it held? South Cerney, famous for 'The Bow Wow' and 'Upper Up' street names. :-D
  21. I concur, I've had two of Frank's ignitions on my Dodges. One 12 volt and one 6 volt. Never a problem with either, the 12 volt on the Dodge WC51 has been on about 10 years.
