  1. True, but it is more the effect of UV on the canvas that rots it more than water.
  2. Welcome, as you see no one gets time to think before they are asked to contribute.
  3. Welcome, the model section is growing larger.
  4. Ash is frighteningly expensive. The biggest cost of restoring the WS10 trailer has been the Ash wood. How do you intend to finish the roof? Is it canvas covered? We are looking at putting a brethable roof tile membrane over the roof before the canvas. The idea is stop condensation inside and also protect the wood. Canvas is a lot cheaper to replce.
  5. Good weather and happy landings. Wish I could be with you all.
  6. There is a lot of advice on building a steam box on the web. Last time I did it was when we built a Wayfarer dingy at school. Just make sure you wear thick gloves. the wood does get hot.
  7. Welcome Alan! Just down road from me. I started visiting Firepower in the Rotunda days.
  8. We do talk to the public. You get asked everything from Why do you hate the Germans?, that needs some quick thinking, to explaing about Big Bertha. Fortubnatley the 10th have Craig, he's great with the public. If you are really lucky, the 'Turns' are on in the evening. Broad sense of humour required. :-D:cool2::shocked: http://www.kenttv.com/

  12. At Dover Castle, and at Detling the 10th Essex built an above ground trench. The public were queing for hours. The problems unfortunatley are health & saftey (as usual) Damage, people take libertys with your stuff that they'd get apoplectic if you did with theirs, and theft.

  16. hey may look like a Dog, would you want to be bitten by one? A few in Afganistan wouldn't come amiss. The SA Army developed the techniques of mine proff vehicles.. I'd love one.
  17. Good old Soyer cooker mostly. http://www.freewebs.com/29thfieldkitchen/themilitarycook.htm PS If you contact Peter, NEVER ask him what he is cooking. The reply wil be 'Why ask me? I' a Bl**dy cook! Not sherlock Holmes.
  18. When we went to Schichpol last year no one really bothered whith our passports. Those with a heavy sun tan got the full third degree. Mind you some of the customs , emmigration officials at Schipol. Cor,
  19. With a knot! :n00b: Disposable supermarket carrier bags make a good liner to hold other fillers. I also stick a bag in one and hang it up as 'period' rubbish sack. Rolled up they make improvised head gear. One remark pased at a show 'Why do you have a sandbag on your head? Answer 'Because I can!' The secret was another Tesco in bag , kept the heavy rain off beautifully. The other uses from the Great War especially was over boots and as gaiters. Versitile bits of kit.
  20. There was an idea in 1917 for an amphibious assualt in the region of Zeebrugge. The intention was to use tanks on barges. On landing the tank would push a ramp up to the sea wall and climb over. The idea was dropped due to density of shore fortifications. Up to the Higgins boat of the 1930's standard assualt craft was rowing boat.
  21. We are going to have to extend the club house bar with all these Local beers! :-D
