  1. Hi Guys, posting for a friend who has a dodge and believes there are 2 types of six cylinder engines for Dodges one American and one Canadian. Any info or relevant posts would be appreciated. RGDS Casper
  2. Found bubbles forming at the threaded rod and 2 nuts that serves as the bleed screw on top of the fuel filter. Bit of PTFE seemed to cure that air leak, also found 2 joints in fuel line which were nipped up. Seems to have cured it but will replace fuel line during off season. Thanks for the help Casper.
  3. Thanks for the help boys wiil check when I get access to the vehicle again at Headcorn. RGDS Casper.
  4. Got a DAF 220 turbo diesel, runs fine, but after 5 minutes at idle it stalls and subsequent investigation finds air at the bleed off on top of the filter. Any ideas welcome. Kind regards Casper.
  5. Hi guys, have heard all sorts of, yes you can, no you cant arguments about the use of pink diesel in historic vehicles's, namely a 1941 recovery vehicle with a retrofit diesel engine on the road. Anyone know the definative answer ?? I tried HMRC and couldn't get through. RGDS Casper.
  6. Anyone have an explanation for this, 12v lead acid battery, totaly discharched(lights left on MAYBE). Recharged battery OK. Ran down again, MAYBE something left on. Tried recharging again, it quickly blew the fuse in the charger. Invesigated further and tested battery with a battery dischage tester, found needle deflecting in wrong direction(yes I confirmed the correct connections) swapped connections around red to negative of battery and black to positive of battery and meter of discharge tester indicated 7 volts in the correct direction. It appears the battery has swapped polarity !!!!!! Battery failed discharge test immediately. I am a lapsed electrical engineer from an industrial background and dont have a great deal of DC experience. Could this be a short within the battery?. All testing carried out without any connection to the vehicle. Baffled.
  7. Any body have an idea what these canvas's belong to, Someone suggested a halftrack. Ant ideas appreciated. RGDS Casper
  8. Gentlemen I am indebted to you, I thought they were as you say but have never seen them, do you know if they are readilly available as a friend of mine wishes to have some. kind regards casper.
  9. I found this strip of black connectors residing below my dashboard, they appear to be some sort of circuit breaker but have no visible reset mechanism. It's the black items next to the copper bus bar that interest me. Any ideas much appreciated. kind regards Casper
  10. That's just the angle of the picture, the down pipe is angled slightly towards the rear. Re: Are they up for grabs.....was thinking of ebay, unless someone wants to make me a decent offer. Regards Casper
  11. Couldn't add anything at the bottom of the post. So. All ideas appreciated, Many thanks Casper.
  12. Can anyone out there Identify these manifolds? They appear to be a matched pair, inlet and exhaust. They definately do not fit a GMC 353/2 6 cylinder straight 6. Stamped GM on both. Rex Ward believes they are a Chevy Exhaust manifold Inlet manifold 3836922 ?? 1958 ??
  13. Thanks for all the ideas boys. Clamped off the flexies and traced fault to OSF slave cylinder leaking. Replacement should do the job. Ta. Casper.
  14. OK boys heres some questions on jeep brakes. a 1957 Hotchkiss M201 to be precise. Brakes pulled hard right so jacked up and found NSF binding and OSF not really working. So, adjusted all brakes as per manual. on top adjusters i.e. adjust till binding on drum and back off a little. Shoes and cylinders inspected 500 miles ago, all OK. Bled all 4 brake cylinders, just in case, just 2 tiny bubbles observed. Now brakes in a straight line but not good braking. On first push pedal goes well down and a seccond push gives a better, but not great pedal, at no point do they lock the wheels. Brake fluid looks a little cloudy. All ideas and advice appreciated. Thanks Casper
  15. My ash supply is cheap enough and i will inspect for knots before purchase. Re: breather membrane under canvas, I would think very hard about it. i believe the moisture would pass through the breather membrane onto the inner side of the canvas and as the canvas is denied its natural airflow to evaporate the moisture would cause damp in the canvas. When used as underfelt in house roofs there is an air gap beneath the tile that allows the moisture to evaporate. true that the wooden tile battens sandwich the membrane to the roofing rafter but the only path of moisture to the sandwiched area would be through the rafter Only a theory but plausible.
