  1. Nice one! Never thought of that. Mind you, ear defenders mandatory. :-D
  2. TfL won't like you! :nono: Good plan, welcome in.
  3. Was practice at the time to fit 'Ballon' tyres to desert vehicles.
  4. Back int day, before winterised disiel these gizmos were essential, that and bury two cans of fuel in the muck heap overnight so you had warm disiel to pour into the tank on a frosty morning. :-D
  5. Get a railway sleeper or other baulk of timber. Place it the far side of roll frame. Attach one tirfor in the middle. By preference use two one each end of timber. Then take strain, should lift the far side wheels and allow planks to go under wheels. I've used similar method to sight boats in such situations. Joy of a Tirfor, you are so far back if it does topple, you arent there and they give very delicate control
  6. Yeah Tedley, I know what you mean, when you point at an expensive classic car and say to your son' I had one of them, bought it for £50 '! :-D
  7. How strong is the roof? :-D Seriously I'd aquire or hire a couple of Tirfor winches. You can lift as well as pull with them. Being hand powered you can put just the right amount of strain on, and being self contained you can get into awkward places
  8. Welcome in mate. The forum gives you the same experience as working on old motors. Goes fine then stops for inexplicable reasons. :-D
  9. Welcome in, why not a Cheiftain, if you have a big enough shed. :-D
  10. Yes, a service technique we have all used at some time. :-D
  11. Story goes, it was a Lady in a lighthouse stuck out on the far western coast of Ireland who, though she didn't know it , was the one whose observations decided D-Day. The American's were into historical forcasting, because it happened last year it will happen this year. The British were into predictive forcasting, measure what you have coming your way and work from that. The west coast of Ireland being closest to the Atlantic, this lady was told to take measurments every two hours and report. From this the lull on 6th June was predicted. Post war Flower class corvettes and Coastal class frigates were converted to Weather Monitoring ships, contiuning in service till the 1980's. A long while back now I was grumbling about accuracy of weather forcast. A member of the Met office got most idignant and said' We are very accurate at 39,000 feet! That's why we set up to forcast for the RAF'. Another oddity (in fine form tonight:cool2: ) Members of the International Metorlogical Service are the only ones allowed to take the element Mecury on aircraft. Though the mecury barometer must be sealed in two thick individual plastic bags.
  12. Funnily enough there are a couple of Wessex in a feild near me. One of the Lottery day dreams is to have one, or maybe a Hercules, as the Garden shed. :-D
  13. Bit if advice? Stick in electric! :-D Ah the joys of powering up a hill in heavy rain, as the wipers get slower and slower. So saying, dump old ones in some oil for a bit, also make sure every hose is 1 Strong enough not to collapse under vacum, 2 Absolutley sealed tight. Had these problems on my Katy when I first got her. (Don't rain in Jersey , Britian's South Sea Island)
  14. If it still starts, bolt back in minus bit brocken off!. :-D Never ceases to amaze me how old engines keep going .

  16. Spandau Prison was demolished in 1987 following the death of Hess. The bricks are supposed to have been ground up and dumped at sea, speciffically so it didn't become a Neo Nazi shrine. Yes, the Second World war is within living memory, and not only in Germany. Structures do have a symbolic power, take every war memorial for a start. So a lot of long and careful thought will go into what to do with this buildings. No doubt with the dreaded 'P' word making it presence felt.
  17. Welcome in, that's quite a spread of interest.
  18. I'd use the blackout switch for what it is meant for. Then any additional switches can be hidden somewhere. Worth fitting LED bulbs for indicators, bright and small. I also added a cheap 6-12 volt buzzer from Maplins. What I did for side lights was hide two LED strips under the front wheel arches. When on at night the glow lights the arches and gives the width of the vehicle, which the main reason for sidelights.
  19. If the Jeep is like the Dodge, and I suspect they are. They wern't fitted with side lights. The combinations you have are correct, but you need to add a separate circuit for sidelights.
  20. Unfortunatley the last 'Independent' spares shop in my area has just closed. :angry The local factor I use is good, but don't have the odd bit of bits of things.
  21. Welcome in , please post pictures! I have seen a black and white WW1 shot saying 'Don't waste' 18lb shells £6 each.
  22. I have childhood memories of a Blue Daf 33 Varimatic at home in Jersey. I was about 10 cycling past the house in which it was parked, when POP, it burst into flames. Didn't Volvo take the Varimatic on?
  23. Got 6 meters of 7mm Copper Core HT and set of end caps from a place called The Green Spark Plug Co. £12 the lot delivered. Though it will be Sunday before I can get round to fixing it . http://www.gsparkplug.com/
