  1. Looking good, if you need axle boots let me know.
  2. They do not necessarily need to come from Withams, all the Chalenger 1s and Scammell Commander transporters went directly from MOD to Jordan.
  3. £13K for the Explorer then !
  4. Dale, what is the June 28-29th event ? Should be the Cent on that trailer not Chieftain !
  5. Any info on what the Scammell Explorer sold for ?
  6. Very sad, I had an excellent afternoon in the museum a couple of years ago whilst my wife was shopping in London. It is not too difficult to reach on public transport from central London.
  7. Have now sorted out 99% of my electrical problems......wired the batteries the correct way round..... also replaced the alternator which had blown as a consequence of the reverse polarity ! Did not notice at first as the truck started no problem, lights worked, indicators operated but did not flash, dash was dead so did not see the fact it was no longer charging, only when I got the test meter out did I find it. A friend had wired the batteries an a new battery isolator for me in the rush to get it moved from the storage facility which was shortly due to close.
  8. Dale there is an events section on here. I am no longer a member of any of the local MVT branches in the Manchester area so cannot publicise the event with either of them on your behalf. John.
  9. There seem to be far more than 10 stud holes ?
  10. Welcome aboard John from a previous Antar owner.
  11. They did not use that trailer, it used to belong to a friend of mine who made it look like a military trailer.
  12. They were only ever designed to be towed forwards. Wait till you have the Dyson behind the ANTAR !
  13. Quite rare now and difficult to convert. Big diesel, say RR Eagle or Cummins 12 / 14 litre too long for engine bay so a few done with extended chassis and bonnet. Shorter engines like V8 Perkins or V8 Cummins not enough torque and power to comfortably get the 24 tonnes and 6x6 transmission rolling. I had a very nice one with Perkins V8 (naturally aspirated) once suspend towed a Scammell Explorer from Preston to Stockport, at one point on the M6 south of Preston I was down to 4mph.....really scary, watching rearview mirror ready to dive onto hard shoulder as normal trucks approaching at 56mph !
  14. Rick, Hope to meet up with you there, would also like to see your HET, I have its predecessor the M746 HET here in the UK. I know there are 4 x M747 trailers for sale at Sam Winer Motors, Akron, Ohio. Here is a picture of them last week.
  15. Do you mean you picked it up to put it on the lorry ? If so you need a far bigger Hiab than 8 tonne, all lorry loader cranes are rated by the capacity at 1metre from the kingpost.
  16. Hi Chieftain Mk4, (Sorry but as yet you have not posted your name), don't know where you are located but on 2nd & 3rd August 2014 in Heywood, Manchester we have a Tank running day at which there will be 2 Chieftains, 1 Centurion, a number of 430 series and I will be taking either my M578 or CET. You would be very welcome to bring along the Mk4 Chieftain as an exhibit. This event it open to the public with all proceeds going to a local hospice. There are around 20 acres where the tanks run around all weekend. For pictures of last years event have a look at Heywood Tanks on facebook.
  17. How about posting your title picture so we can see it better ?
  18. Which charger ? Pulsetech ? When I spoke to the guy there about my single channel one failing (which they replaced no problem) he asked if I was running it overnight on 240 volts, which I clearly was. He said if I could it would be better running off a 110 volt supply as overnight sometimes the mains output climbs over 250 volts due to lack of demand on the grid. The charger therefore sometimes blows on the inlet protection. Since fitting a 110v plug and running it through a transformer it has been no problem. I have no connection with the UK suplier, I have recovered a good number of heavily discharged Hawkers with the pulstech.
  19. The disappointing thing is that the electric motor on them is 400 volt AC. Supply must have come from the generator supplying the Rapier system. I think a lot of people ate buying them blind off the auction site not realising this fact.
  20. I guess the auctioneer really does not have any idea regarding the guide prices as they are not particularly experts in this field, but you might have thought that they would have taken advice from the people who worked there, maybe they have been misled by the prices Mr Littfield actually paid for them in the first place ? Was rather pleased at the guide on the M578, but it's only a guide. I intend being there for the 2 days so it should be interesting to see who is bidding on the day. Anyone else planning on going ?
  21. Does not do our cause any good when our preserved vehicles are used in this manner, just bad publicity for all of us.
  22. Have a look on Google maps and establish location. As previously discussed do not post map on forum for security reasons but it may satisfy your curiosity.
  23. It's all in the weight ! I have used these batteries in a collection I help look after, they are ok when new and properly looked after, however I personally use the original Hawker military ones which are physically the same size but weigh at least 1/2 as much again.
  24. Here's another on I called in this morning just to have a look !
