  1. Surely a man of your calibre, it would have been possible. A suitable winch and strong beams no problem !!
  2. I wonder what the implications would be if you were to use it at night in the eyes of your insurance !!! :wow:
  3. OMG Is it the one just on from the massive red bricked civic centre off the roundabout ? all closed up !!!!
  4. You need to build it up on the floor and start by getting the two sides / wheel arches then get all the cross rails and bolt them in place loosly, then put in all the slatted boards measure the diagonals to get nice and square, pick up whole lot and place down on rear of chassis and put in last few bolts and away you go.
  5. ??????? Have you sent some pics in of something !!!!!!
  6. Be very wary where you put the jack if you need to jack a certain wheel put the jack under the axle tubes on the axle ( do not jack on the centre diff casing, especially a split axle design they are not very strong ) just below the leaf spring position it has always worked for me. Also don't forget the hand brake on a GMC works on a band brake on the output of the transfer box which is connected to the rear prop shafts, so if you have one wheel on each rear axle off the ground and the truck is situated on a bit of a slope it will move off down the hill, only jack on the flat if at all possible, oh and bear in mind axle wind up as the rear two axles on the GMC are locked together both diffs have to go round together, so you can get wind up where the axles are fighting each other, when you come to jack any of the rear wheels as it comes clear of the ground it can spin a bit, probably only a couple of inches but under quite a lot of force, if you are not expecting it, it can be quite a surprise.
  7. Yes, but at least the rusty tat on top at the moment is worth twice the cost of the trailer and will keep going up !!!!
  8. I think, given the choice knowing now what I do, it would have to be Banjo axle, as the transfer box is also a much better design in terms of strength issues, I have herd that split axles if over loaded or used over harsh terrain can literally split at the join of the diff casings, not good...
  9. So if you were considering an engine up grade and the vehicle in question had a high/low transfer box would it be reasonable to regard the diffs in the axles to be strong enough due to the fact it was designed to be used in low range and with that type of gear reduction the increase in torque must be quite considerable ? so would that be a reasonable thought that the old engine in low range produces x amount of torque so if you were to fit a more powerful engine but used it in high range the drive train still gets x amount of torque. This is not taking into consideration the transfer box of gear box as these will be having more put through them directly from the engine.
  10. Are chain drives limited by speed, what about reliability, are they high maintenance ? why are they not in use today ?
  11. Sorry I have not explained myself very well. What I am trying to get at is, how does one diff differ from another, are there different designs of meshing of the gears to enable the diff to transmit more torque ? Are there some designs which cant turn at higher RPM due to certain constraints ?
  12. Yes ok did know about that type. More of an interest is the make up of the crown wheel and pinion arrangement, are there different heights between the pinion shaft and half shafts, are there different types of meshing gears and the benefits can some turn faster and stay cooler ?
  13. Biggest and best, yes but could the engineers have built it any differently and not had the problems.
  14. I know, but she is dribbling snot everywhere, its horrid I'm drowning in it.
  15. Get up in the morning to go to work and the outside of the van windows are all condensed up and have to wipe them all so I can see.
  16. Right up to 1000 posts where the club house can anyone give me directions I want a beer, oh and who else wants one :cool2:
  17. Hey how do you know she has a cold....... did you give it to her :wow:
  18. A green star, where .....:cool2:
  19. We had our GMC at the First Goodwood Revival event and were entailed to run VIP's from their drop off point outside the circuit across the road round a bit of the circuit and then into the middle to be dropped off outside the main tent we were helping the guests down the steps from the back of the truck when I gave out my hand to help the next person and who was it, you will never guess....... Murray Walker OMG.......How cool is that, I was well chuffed.
  20. Here are a couple of pics of Marks and Mikes WLF's towing a Sherman at Armour and Embarkation 2010. Both the WLF were bared together as there were some long slow hills to pull the Sherman up, looks a mean set up working hard.
  21. Wow just spotted that I am nearly up to 1000 posts what do I get !!!!
  22. I think you got the wrong end of the stick a bit, only posted the program details so people can watch it if they want to to see the process of what went on for the general construction of the ship, nothing more, personally I think it will be quite interesting to see what they go through, not that I know what the documentary is going to be like....
  23. Are you referring to how the rear body is assembled or are you just on about the back rests of the bench seats ?
  24. There is a documentary Mon night CH4 21.00 about rebuilding sections of the Titanic to scale and using the original methods or manufacture !!!!! Might be good to see.
