  1. impossible alixcompo, i still own them , the ones i don't have anymore got used for bits. my wife, my dad and me got 9 land-rovers and a few its spare.
  2. lost the land-rover key on the beach, picked the doorlock, unscrewed the dash and then had a security guard knock on my window... are you stealing that land rover?, i told them no one in there right mind would steal that thing. he laughed and went away.the earth switch i bypassed with a 10mm bolt that i screwed in , i made a bodge with a spade fuse to connect the ignition wires and fired the starter motor with the other wire. worn diesel linkage i fixed with a hairband, worn petrol linkage cable got fixed with a wire from the carb through the vent flap and i pulled to accelerate. extremely worn contact set, i used a file to flatten the surface and it went, same as the rotor metal came loose, i used stone adhesive to fix it. no lights at the rear of the vehicle... i got a trailer board as i had juice on the plug at the rear, i made it so that the cable for the tow hitch plug had the beginnings in the engine bay. faulty doorlock, rope to secure it to a bracket at the bulkhead, 2.5 diesel solenoid went bust, removed the internal and started straight up. i was three hours away from home when the thermostat housing gasket failed. i walked a mile to a diner and got a bar coaster, used that to make a gasket and away i went. i don't know how long it will last, but 3 years ain't bad so far. i had 600kg concrete tiles in the back of the 109, the rear spring hanger broke from the outrigger. jacked the vehicle up and got it so the spring end fitted in the hole it left, got the job done and a day later it got fixed, the day after that we did a run to fetch parts from Brighton what proofed to be 28,5 hours on the road, driving from Heemskerk and had 3 cans of petrol with us as support. for me, running crappy trucks is a way of life. field repairs are needed to keep my brain in shape. cheers, Arjan
  3. the firms around here did not like it, i found one man to do it... i expect a price of 1250 to 1500 pounds. i rather try and find a enthusiast who knows what he is doing and knows what he is looking at. Thanks for your time to reply. Arjan
  4. how many hours do you guys spend on your projects per day.... 3 to 4, sometimes up to 9 depending on rain and pain. shopping for parts count, building a dryish shed from a wood rot box, needing to drive to liverpool region from mablethorpe to pick up a petrol engine :-) Bill, can you do custom projects on the side that is about milling and machining with a lathe? if i can get precise drawings for a winch drive line , can you make some bits? cheers, Arjan
  5. Mungaman, the bike is 300 miles away from me tied to the shed roof timbers. next time i am visiting holland i take some pictures. i do hope to find a few bits so i can restore it.
  6. i will give it a shot on my 1936 junkers push bike
  7. i collect unloved items. ammo casings with dents and holes, guns that are way past pretty. land rover parts and ww2 items i can afford. if any .303 items count.... i just like them, i got one with text on it: Tylers boots are the best. a promo item for a pound.
  8. would it have been a issue with wood expanding when wet and thinning when dry? just wondering...
  9. your best bet is to contact both customs, discuss it and ask if any paperwork is needed. i had the same with my wedding sword, legal in the uk as well in holland but still needed to clear customs as they want to know what is entering and exiting the country.
  10. in the few years i am in to this forum, i learned to say.... never say never. who knows what is still out there lurking in the dark. i do hope it can be restored, i love the old chain drives.
  11. Markheliops, how would you recover a flipped on it's side 101fc ambulance? Just wanting to know as they lay on their sides with straight chassis, when pulled on their wheels they bent the chassis. with you as an expert i see you as the right person to ask. as for Mike with the donor vehicle, can an arranggement be made with Rex for the transport of said vehicle? It is a crowd pleaser for his show, or does he have a vehicle suited to roll over?
  12. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/281095186916?hlpht=true&ops=true&viphx=1&lpid=95&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=95 that is the battery, nothing special as it is the same as it had before. the starter motor was the one from a sixpot series 3, not old but might need opening up for lube. the new starter motor is a dud from the box, tried in multiple land rovers and pure on a battery but no real rpm to start a engine. does anyone have a spare decent series 2 (clamp on metal on the rear) 12v starter motor for use in negative earth vehicle? i need to get some items in so i can grab what i need instead of being stuck and nowhere to walk to for parts ( i can walk 50 meters before i need a rest and pain killers) cheers, Arjan
  13. Yes, that got it sorted. thanks you for that, my google search came up with nothing. now the issue of a smoking starter relay when i try to fire up the truck.... it never ends i guess, might be the starter that draws to much.
  14. there is a tale of buried ww2 vehicles in sutton on sea, after the flooding disaster they used ww2 trucks to fill the hole in the sea defense, for now i keep it as old wife's tale till i see pictures :-)
  15. we had a issue with the indicator stalk, the one fitted has got a WD label on it, the replacement ciffie item has got different plugs on it. how do i wire it in? also with a standard relay, how can i run the main beams over them? i am not that handy with wires ime afraid thanks, Arjan
  16. http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/military-sites/79965-raf-manby-lincolnshire-april-2013-a.html pictures from before the fire. they don't break in, they trespass. buildings get photographed and sometimes it is for the best. the metal thieving community knows where to get metal from. fire get often started to get demolition plans forward in buildings that are a shame to knock down. look in to the urbex lifestyle, then judge.
  17. the dutch resistance killed innocent people too, there were nice germans, there were bad troops who sold gear to the black markets. war is dirty business. face it, everybody did what they need to do to survive, even if it meant poaching, signing up for the wrong side or fight as germans called it terrorist groups. fact is, let it be the past. what good is it to prosecute 92 year olds?
  18. we have to draw a line somewhere. the resistance was not more then a terrorist group that acted without uniforms or markings. they did their part against the greater evil but still, where do we draw the line that enough is enough with prosecution?
  19. I am convinced that anyone can do this sort of thing, though. You just have to want to do it! no Steve, i lack the tools
  20. if one would be scrap, i would like to have it. polished and preserved i would use it as a paper weight :-) i have another item, conrod and piston bend to buggery but mounted on a plank it is a trophy of stupidity (not quitting land-rovers in the first month)
  21. just wondering, what is planned with the old pistons? if it is scrap i think it is a shame. cheers, Arjan
  22. i got a cordless drill and electric planer :-) now i can finally do the doors in the house that arrived a short while ago. anything vehicle related i have to buy anyway.
  23. must invest in one then :-) that man is my dad, the woman is now my wife.
  24. Was there a interview in there with a dutch 101fc owner and a lady in a wheelchair talking about her adaptions so she could drive it? Me... The restorer of both vehicles was not in view, i hate camera's
  25. your last link, i can ask them in person as they are friends with my wife, if they can etch the military bits for the 2a, i can order the other bits through the ebay supplier. next thing to order is bolts to mount a defender capstan to a series 3....
