They were 4x4 and I think 4 wheel steer, but I don't know how the drive was arranged.

Judging by the shape and the way round it'd have to be to make that list & the filler accessible, might it be for an item of plant, generator or something like that?

Clive, I think the crucial phrase is pass over the barrier; thinking back to the ones I've seen and if I remember correctly, as said above the bar is a gate which is opened and closed but there is a board across at floor level (see your drawing) which one steps over.

I remember Joe's yard from the late '80s through to mid '90s when it cleared, all sorts of stuff there. If I remember rightly the red / white Mat in the other thread ha an 8 ton Harvey Frost (or possibly Mann Egerton) crane mounted on a big turntable on the chassis. There was also a AEC RT, a normal control Commer Superpoise (the small one with the wide bonnet - can't remember the model), a big Fiat and various other stuff in that shed. Outside I can remember Antars (less their engines), Explorers (there was a very dismantled but very sound and tidy one and a few more tatty ones), Austins, an ex-circus Dodge Kew Fargo (Smarts or Sir Robert Fossett's), and down the front nearer the road some odd stuff dotted about including a complete but very tatty International Green Diamond fire engine. I also remember Albion Clansmans / HD23Ns, Millys, Martians, much more. I've got photos somewhere but they're in a box so may take some digging out.

I don't think it is. Looks a bit small, and some details aren't right, notably the transition from cab to bonnet and the wheelarch shape.

Steve, it seems only the 250ml is listed over here - that might be why all the suppliers that list the small bottles are in the US. There does, as the guys have said above, seem to be plenty of choice for US suppliers though. How much do you think you might use - and are you likely to need it in the future? Just thinking if you have to pay £20 for a small bottle plus maybe the £20 carriage from the states that some suppliers want, you're over half way to buying the larger bottle anyway. I don't think Amazon will ship to here free from the US. Another alternative might be to find it surplus (though beware long out of date stock) - the NSN is apparently 8040 99 225 4168 ' Adhesive, Cylindrical Retaining'

It was not there last year it been replaced by a warrior I thought it was a Cent that was replaced by the Warrior, don't seeing remember a Comet the last few times I've been past - or am I getting confused?

Some great pictures but it's a shame the original captions / information aren't with them, though in some cases they obviously have them. All I can see is tags / keywords, unless anyone knows different?

I think there were only two (though I stand to be corrected), and they were cut up - I can recall seeing a photo of one upside-down on a pile of scrap...

There was a red / white Bantam mobile control tower at Middle Wallop for years. Haven't been past there for two or three years or more, but last I saw it had moved to the museum so I assume it's still alive.

Alastair, are you overcomplicating the issue? If budget is a problem, how good does the gearbox need to be - as new or just sound and usable? How bad are the gears - wrecked, or just marked but serviceable? It's not as if the vehicle's doing thousands of miles, presumably? Any photos? Reason I ask is because gearboxes are not complex things and I'll bet a '20s R&H gearbox is even less so. It'd be the sort of thing you could rebuild yourselves easily. I'll bet half the old trucks out there are running around with marked drive faces on all the gears. If the cost of replacing all the damaged gears is prohibitive and a fair proportion of them would go again that'd save a chunk of money. You can get new gears (e.g. crown wheel) cut to pattern by someone like HPC gears (Chesterfield) or the company Mike's son works for for quite sensible money, and things like bearings and seals can probably be got.

I don't think it can be part of a Whale. It looks to be correctly set up, not part of some wreckage, and appears to be two temporary structures on top of each other with a ladder up to the top one, on some sort of proper base or cleared area and perhaps with a large aerial or similar. There were various control towers for those in charge of movements on the beach to observe and marshall vehicles and ships - could it be one of those control towers?

What does the V5 have listed under revenue weight (not under taxation class)?

Not much more than that, I wouldn't have thought, by comparison with restored stuff that's about. Is it just me, or are people asking (and sometimes paying) really stupid money for stuff these days?

Thanks all. I'm sure there's lots more cracking photos to come from everyone. Rosie, glad you're sorted out. Re. the last image, they were in a field by the road near Martinstown; seemed appropriate. Video now up in two parts, first part is mostly Wynford Eagle hill, second part is Martinstown and some stills from Dorchester: edit: YouTube seem to have added a strange distortion in places!
