  1. Got any photos of the bits? Andrew, I'm just getting invalid attachment for your photo (?)
  2. 360 Dagenham, surely? 380 Luton (or Dunstable). Or what am I forgetting?
  3. The Cold War Provost RMP re-enactors don't allow markings to be displayed... 1. Conversant with UK legislation, all vehicles owned and/or operated by Cold War Provost members, whilst on Public Roads, marked as "Military Police", shall have ALL such markings securely and completely covered or where possible removed (see 80 PRO s2 SOP3 below); this includes all blue-light beacons, and "MILITARY POLICE" markings. Where a vehicle owner is concerned over the legislation, it is highly advisable to consult local civilian Police Constabularies to gain advice and guidance. 2. If neccessary, all "Military Police" markings and blue lights may have to be removed prior to accessing public roads, refitting such markings and lights once at the event in question, and removing them again prior to leaving said event. ...though they only give one reference in support of this, and that only refers to the lighting regulations re. blue lights. Wouldn't the MoD be able to tell you?
  4. Well, their price is their price, and presumably they've pitched it at a price that they think it will sell at and will maintain their profit margin... ...on the other hand, there are plenty on Fleabay at a quarter to a half that price.
  5. Try giving Shield Batteries a call 01202 667728 / 01279 652067, they do hard rubber and a few modern batteries with black, fairly vintage looking casings.
  6. NOVA is for notifying HMRC the vehicle has been imported permanently. It's supposed to be done by the importer within 14 days of import, so really it should already have been done for any unregistered import Jeep you look at. If it was me looking at an unregistered import vehicle, I'd want to see documentary evidence that the import duty and (if appropriate) VAT has already been paid - there should be a certificate to say so - unless you know it hasn't and the price has been adjusted downwards accordingly. I'd also want to see documentation identifying the vehicle, tying it to the person who imported it or is trying to sell it to you, and giving the original year of manufacture or first use. For a registered vehicle you should see a current V5 and some documentary evidence connecting the vehicle to the person who's trying to sell it to you (cynical, me?). Generally the more documentation and provenance the better.
  7. Bob, Are they saying it can't be registered as it does not have UK type approval? There are ways round this; the obvious route might be IVA / SVA or whatever it's called these days. https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/individual-vehicle-approval
  8. Sorry chaps, it's probably my fault. I've been away for ages, I come back and everyone runs off.... Must have frightened them all away. I'll try not to let it happen again. And I don't even know which Farcebook group everyone's talking about.
  9. Try the truck parts suppliers / factors, I've bought decent mudflaps at very sensible prices from them in the past.
  10. Chris, that makes sense in the context of where I got it; it came in a load of stuff from a sale of mainly WW2 and '50s gear. Again, that makes sense - I have another one or two which still have the handle / loop. Thanks again both of you.
  11. Thanks Tony. Wartime, or later?
  12. What are you actually asking for? I've found with insurers that while you need to fully declare, overcomplicating things can be a minefield. Probably best to go in asking for public liability rather than talking about vehicle restoration initially, set them off on the right track. I've just been looking for public liability and found Towergate to be quite helpful.
  13. There's a Landrover on eBay at the moment with the same insignia on. The ad claims it's the markings of the 1st East Anglian Regiment (Royal Norfolk and Suffolk) (though it's not a genuine military Landy). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1949-Land-Rover-Series-1-Lights-behind-grill-/121346787727
  14. It's got a hood that hinges down, and two 'filters' that can be rotated round using the knob, one red and one aluminium. On the back there's a big spring clip almost as though it's designed to clip over a belt or a pocket. In all other respects it's just like the old style cycle lamps that take the big flat tagged batteries.
  15. I don't see any scrap dealers paying Bonham's prices! The large quantities of spares would be difficult for them to sell in any other way, given the time probably available for the sale, the quantity of stuff there and the difficulty of establishing exactly what it all is. I can't believe the guide prices on some of that stuff though. Think I need to start putting some stuff through Bonham's...
  16. Thanks Nick, glad my memory's not completely vanished! Anyone want it? I've no use for it. It's actually new and better than it looks in the photo, though it'll want a clean up.
  17. I have a feeling it's something enginey and Fordson rings a bell, but that could be a total red herring...
  18. Not today, but went to Millbrook proving ground last weekend for an event. Lots of interesting things lying around, including a couple of Wolfhounds, a row of MAN trucks, and an old TM 4-4 tanker used for damping down dust and wetting skid pans etc. for wet weather testing. Not allowed to take photos though!
  19. Bill, If it's just the cushions an upholsterer / trimmer should be able to make some new ones for you. If it's the seat bases you need something very shallow unless you want to cut the seat boxes on the floor away; I've used van seats e.g. Bedford Midi in the past. The box body will convert to a camper but you need to think about the layout carefully as it's so small, and you have to be happy about not being able to stand up in it. Also it'll bring you into class IV MoTs as it won't be a goods vehicle any more, not that that's a problem as it should be roadworthy either way. If you're really worried about originality you can fit it out picking up on the original wireless kit mountings so you're not filling it full of extra holes, i.e. you can put it back to original if you want.
  20. If the cylinder bores are still good Brovex Nelson do the seals.
  21. Looking at the photo it's obvious why the access is poor - someone's left a mechanic in there... This would really worry me. I can't understand why, with an engine that's evidently got a number of issues and in a vehicle you want to be reliable, they wouldn't want to inspect the bottom end; particularly as it sounds as though some of those issues might potentially have damaged the crank / ends / rods and it's probably easier to do the job on the bench anyway.
  22. Any info as to the first photo ('easy one') - place, date etc? The sign in front of / on one of the carriers at the bottom looks as though it says 'Vorsicht! Lebensgefahr' on it.
