  1. I think the peak in the original photograph is a building roof apex behind the aircraft. I think the vehicle is an Austin with a coachbuilt body.
  2. It is some time since I have been that way, There was a lot of Jaguar stuff last time I was past.
  3. There was someone from France on this forum looking for a half shaft not long ago. He was looking for part no Mowog ATA7057.
  4. We have several cemeterys in the North East of England with war casualties both Allied and Axis interned. If anyone would like a photograph of a particular Grave,I will do my best to oblige. These pictures were taken at Chevington South Broomhill, It was used for casualties from nearby Acklington airfield.
  5. It sounds the right area, He was on desert salvage before transfering to RAF Air sea rescue after the retreat East. When the Army was withdrawing through their camp heading back eventually to El Alamain an Officer came out of his tent waving his pistol shouting (I will shoot the first man who runs away) My father was made up to Corporal for driving a Clark tractor towing a fuel bowser back. He said, well I was not going to walk if I could help it. I think their C/O was called Hillman.
  6. When my father was up in the dessert he had an accident involving a pillar drill. He went to see an M.O. I wonder if it was this unit.
  7. Thats the direction I was going in. I have kept my reply / revisions on my original post to try to keep my information coherant, I hope this is O.K.
  8. It only has 2 front bogie wheels as far as I can see
  9. Thanks, It is dificult because of the grainy picture But I will keep trying and put better identification if I can.
  10. Spotted today on the A59 west of Menwith hill radar a Pop Larkin style and colour GMC. For Sale
  11. Way back when, Perkins P6 was the engine of choice. A Perkins 6354 would be a good fit.
  12. Could the car behind be a Humber Heavy Utility.
  13. Great work, Look after yourself its to easy to get hurt. You can never have to many blocks.
  14. Here we go to get shot down, Foreground, Dodge dump truck, behind right a Bedford OYD,folowed by a Dodge D60L followed by a GS Ford, with another Dodge D60 facing the railway and a 4x4 GMC reversed towards the railway.I think the sign says 40 ASP, I can slso see a Road Roller posibly a Greens or a Marshall, behind the CMP 4x4. If the railway engine is a 2=6=0 layout a contender would be the Class 545 engine built by two companies in the U.K. and one in Germany to the same design. There is a good picture of a Dodge dump truck on page 33 of the December Windscreen.
  15. Keep your chin up, Hopefully it will be your turn for some good luck soon.
  16. A problem with the Jaguar engine is the large diamiter Cam follower, It more that the valve will tend to stick if it does not move for an extended period. I never like turning an engines by hand to check it without without removing its ability to start or kick back unexpectidly.
  17. It can do no harm being cautious turning an engine that has been inactive for a period of time. This is one time oil quality and change periods will have a bearing on the outcome.
  18. Your thermostat is probably imperial measurement, new ones will be metric dimentions. That said you will need operating temperature firstly If you are lucky you will find an original.
  19. Best wishes to you and your family, good to hear from you.
  20. Thats the way to work on a Wot 6 engine, with the cab off. Get at the distributor no problem. That lifting beam is a work of art.
  21. I was also thinking about the 6x4 with trailer combination getting around the tight bends. Was that why the gen set was on the loadbed I wonder. What fantastic pictures and information is coming out.
  22. If the head light is part of the mudguard as it looks to be, then GS Chevrolet with all steel body is a candidate.
  23. I would aggree with Dennis also piped for vacuum trailer brakes.
  24. I would love to but empty pockets. I have seen at least one with manual outriggers.
