  1. Its a bit like seasoned timber. I think the guys doing the work will have the best idea as to what has gone wrong.
  2. I used to deliver machined aluminium pieces some as long as 80 feet to B.A. in North Wales. I was told by an engineer there that the pieces were not required for some time, but they wanted them as soon as possible so they could start testing them, but also the material needed time for the molecular structure to adopt its natural state.
  3. That would appear to be a sun hat plus two wicker baskets jerry cans, and early british fuel tins, boxes, and possibly one piece of summerfield tracking resting against the left of the trailer. On the left side of the tank at the front there appears to be an insignia, and ajacent to possibly the front and centre compartments two white crosses in chalk. I would think the hose has been used as gravity drainage, or to connect to remote pumping, to either fill or discharge. There should be a record of the vehicles and equipment allocated to the unit. It seems that they were not short of tin mugs.
  4. There seems to be a timber board walk resting against the side of the trailer.
  5. Individual top hatches points to multi compartment. If the unit can be assertained that may help with tracing equipment.
  6. Its a great little truck but there just is not the money around at the moment. You just have to keep it out there, the right person has not seen it yet.
  7. Could be Chev or Ford built to the same pattern. Single rear wheels could be an alternative fit.
  8. A foot in two camps. 2 and 4 wheels
  9. It is a sad time, my condolences. Your memories of him are priceless and keep him with you.
  10. Back track up the wires and find the solonoid.
  11. D series 6X4 tipper with Hendricson rear suspension and a Later 4x2 with an Atlas truck crane and grab
  12. A Perkins 504 is quite a revy lump I drove a Dodge Commando with a one in, it had a 5 speed O/drive box and an Eaton 2 speed axle. It was noisy but went well. I would think it would be the diff ratios that were changed rather that the box. You do not have to be Military to be here just interested. Ford D series had tin worm installed in the factory much like S Type Bedfords.
  13. If it was not such a serious subject it would have made a good "Two Ronnies" sketch.Four Jacks. I saw a car driven up two car ramps at the front, then one wheel had been removed leaving one side supported by a fully extended hydraulic jack on a brick. This was on the road at the end of a row of houses.
  14. Got to end the day with everything you started it with. Now where is my back to front collar.
  15. Compression Rotio C4-C6-C8 N.A. 16 to 1./ Falcon(SF65) N.A. 17 to 1./ C4-C6-C8. Supercharged 14 to 1./ C4-C6- C8 Turbocharged 2 valve head 14 to 1./ C4-C6-C8 4 valve head 15 to 1.
  16. Using a 24v on a 12v system will give you a very poor motor performance, and it will overheat sooner than work. Have you a photo of the 12v unit? If it is working O.K. on the bench is there another solonoid in the circuit, or a poor earth?
  17. Main thing with the Jaguar engine is to keep it running at the right temperature. Do not let sediment build up in the system, it tends to settle at the rear of the block. J60 is basicaly a derated 4.2 XK engine with 24volt electrics, so parts are easy to obtain. Fuel injection is an easy option but the more power the more heat and you start the worry of transmission problems. I would guess that about 10% up would not hurt as it will not be running the extended periods that it did in service. Another thing to remember is keep the engine breather filter clear as they do not like positive crankcase pressure it makes them smokey. With the use of an endascope you can look in down behind the front timing cover to check the lower chain tensioner and make sure it is in place.
  18. Glad you have got something sorted. What type of Rolls engines did you work on? I found if you kept them cool they just went on and on.
  19. I think it is Laminated for windscreens and Toughened for the rest.
  20. I know it is no help, but it is not good practice working on your own under a truck. Gearboxes are heavy awkward lumps. What will be your escape route if something goes wrong, is there no one who could go with you just to pass spanners and just be there incase you have a problem.
  21. Go for it. When clearing a concrete pump pipe a piece of foam is used and pushed through with water. You could blow it through first, then push a piece of foam through with a piece of wire wool in front, using either fluid or air pressure power to clear the internal scale into a bucket.
  22. As with everything on this rebuild a wise decision logically arrived at. It may be a disapointment for the team not to reach their self imposed deadline, but for me watching it has been a fantastic journey. I applaud your efforts.
  23. I have to work under my Freelander so need it up off the ground. This is the first time It has failed to get my home and it has 169000 miles on the clock.
