How about a forum bid - a quid each and tell the Gov't agency we'll let them buy her back at full market value as soon as they realize the clanger they dropped.. :-D :-D :-D

What a great idea we could lease it to them on contract and they pay a set price for hiring her out what about the harriers havent seen em up for sale as yet !

Or it could be turned into a Floating Nightclub, complete with Disco's Gambling Casino's & the Sick Bay could be used by Drug Addicts to Shoot up in. & the Pimped Up Ferret with Glitzy Ball & Flashing Lights could Drive up & down the Top Deck!.......:cool2:

Just keep taking your tablets. :n00b:

As long as the pimped up Ferret drives off the end of the 'ski jump' I'm fine with it. Can we cast the druggies adrift as well?

Looks like they are aiming off for the scrap man as they have the details of steel content etc.

Similar scenario to some comments on other parts of the forum, at the moment she is a surplus to requirements item.............if she lies in a creek for the next 30 years she may accrue some "historical" interest and be worthy of preservation.

Hi All,

I don't mean this to sound in any way disrespectful, it's a genuine question I have...

OK, the UK is an island, a maritime nation if ever there was one, and you guys don't have a single preserved battleship or aircraft carrier??? Here in the States we've got 8 battleships (7 open as museums, 1 in MARAD Cat. B Reserve) and at least 5 carriers I can think of open as museums with talk about either Kennedy or Enterprise becoming ones in the not so distant future. I just don't understand...

Cheers!

We do have preserved ships such as HMS Victory, HMS Belfast etc. A aircraft carrier takes up a lot of space, and we haven't got as much as you!

As such they are much easier store spread around the country as cooking utensils:-D

Don't forget HMS Royal Oak at Scapa Flow

HMS Vanguard should have been preserved.

HMS Ark Royal will go the same way as its sister ship and the previous incarnation as a proper Aircraft carrier. I can not see a UK company winning the contract to scrap her too politically sensitive

I just see that as a shame. It's one thing to read about a ship, look at photos, or even models. It's a whole diferent thing to be able to walk the deck. And it's a great thing that you guys preserved Victory, that would have been a national disgrace to break up.

As an aside, any chance Prince of Wales will get a name change to Ark Royal before completion?

In the paper this weekend that Gibralter is looking to put a bid in for her to be moored up out thier as a tourist come historical exibit. They are very keen with a view to the linkage with the ww2 ark lying in waters not too far distant.

Good luck to them and if anybody is looking at this from HMG give the ark to them at a reduced price you miseries
