thor698 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Hi everyone - I have nearly gone mad trying to get set up but think I may be there now !! (well need to be a bit mad to own an Explorer) Apologies if I have put any info in the wrong place-think I have done it right:shocked: I live in Dorset and have owned my truck for ten years - she is Thor OSJ698 1954 Scammell Explorer. She has a Leyland TL12 fitted. You may recognise the Reg as she was Nightmare and black for a few years (well running gear problems earnt her that name !!) What more can I say am really enjoying looking around the site !! :cool2: Will get more pictures and bits up as soon as I get some more will power !! Quote
N.O.S. Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Hi Thor, I'm sure a warm formal welcome awaits you in the clubhouse. I believe that it is now mandatory for incoming Explorer owners to "adopt" a WW2 (or earlier) vehicle type (of your own choice) and to study this in detail, said vehicle also to be the subject matter of at least 10% of your posts. Adam Elsdon Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Another Explorer owner! watch out for people telling you how you should park your vehicle at the clubhouse they are scared you will crush their dinky vehicles!! Quote
rbrtcrowther Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 HI there:wave: I only joined a few weeks ago an am still trying to catch up on all the message posts. Would like to see some pics of your scammell and the broken bits and any pics of how you fixed it. look forward to chatting. Rob. Quote
daz76 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 A healthy addiction though, wouldn't you say?:cool2: Quote
Richard Farrant Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I live in Dorset Hi Thor, Did you know that new members have to complete an initiation task ? As you are in Dorset, you will not have to travel far to undertake it, just go to somewhere near Blandford and get Jack's damned GMC going, ....................else we will never hear the end of the saga.: Quote
6 X 6 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 You may recognise the Reg as she was Nightmare and black for a few years I remember her as 'Nightmare' very well. You used to turn up with two or three other Explorers at the Longbridge Deverill "Noggin' and Natter" in the past but maybe not recently. Do you plan to be there this year ? Quote
Tony B Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Oh Thor!! Welcome to the mad house, just bad luck being near the Pank of Power don't forget to take Pledge and a duster when you visit. Quote
croc Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Hello Ian, good to see you found your way here. The Explorer owners haven't completely taken over the site yet, but we are working on it, welcome to the club. Quote

thor698 Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Hi guys - thanks for the replies - nice to feel so welcome. 6x6 - yes have done Noggin Natter up to a few years ago. Myself, my cousin with his explorer and gps No Nuts with his explorer used to toddle across! I haven't done it since my son was born but am hopeful now hes big enough to be strapped to the seat with a rachet strap, shackle etc to be there this year. I have a keen interest in landrovers owning a defender up to the said son. Now a disco owner but trying to make her look as little like a standard disco as possible !! I am hopeful to purchase a series this year for the lady wife to drive to the shows! New toy - lovely!. GMC - holy mother it would bring me out in a rash !! Have you thought about a diseal lump (I will duck behind something now) Exporers seem very popular and am glad to hear I am not the only one mad enough to own one and have it keep breaking on me. I am getting the pics of bits of broken Scammell and mine in its many shades of green (oh god does she need a respray) ASAP. Am not a keen photographer so when shes been broken no pics! Must mend and get angry with her when broken not photograph. Have some old ones of a few engine changes on mine and an explorer called Efnick put the volvo FL7 into Efnick and TL12 into mine - not sure how they will scan - if they are any cop will upload them. Will also scan in a photo of her when she was Nightmare to see if she rings any bells with any of you!! Feel free to chat back !! Quote

thor698 Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Hi here are a few pics There is one of after a dirty weekend in Avon Dasset (the truck not the wife - a man has prorities):cool2: There are a couple of engine changes - one is changing a Merc to a FL7 in an explorer called Efnick. The other is one of mine just after the 2nd TL12 was fitted. There is one of Thors engine - what a beauty There is one of my son and I in 2007 at West Bay - I have started him young with checking the water in the radiator. This year we are working on training him to grease the prop. He is small enough not to bang his head !! There is one of me with the truck after being done up and renamed thor - that was 2004 - that year she blew the walking beam and I have done the bear minimum since and she has run as sweet as a nut.:n00b: Quote

thor698 Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Hi Here are a few more pics of my truck. One was taken in 2001 after she had just had her respray to black and had been named Nightmare - as you can see she is looking very tidy and a little bit menacing :cool2: The other two were taken this weekend after a little drive to get my son used the the TL12 again - cried then laughed and then waved and remained very happy even after we broke down with some diesal problems !!! As you can see the elements have really taken their toll on the paint work she now resembles a dulux colour chart for green !! Top job for the spring a respray to one shade of green !! (weather permitting) I am working on pictures of when I had the back axle and diff out and maybe a wrecker I brought for spares (I promise you she was too far gone to do anything with). How do you put up video got the lady wife to take some on the digitial camera at the weekend but cannot seem to get it up onto the thread. Thanks and enjoy:) Quote
