64EK26
Hi Have you just got the radio, the power supply is a separate unit, I recall that it can be used with a DC supply or Mains supply, the connectors use are Plessey Mk4 connectors, I am pretty sure that these are the fine thread ones and not the course thread ones used on Larkspur Equipment For DC supply you need a 2 Pin Plessey Mk4 Fine thread free socket For AC supply you need a 3 Pin Plessey Mk4 Fine thread free socket The for the radio you need a 12 Pin Plessey Mk4 Fine thread free socket, the mating half that connects to the Power Supply is a 12 Pin Plessey Mk4 Fine thread free plug I have probably got all the sockets/plugs you need, feel free to PM me Cheers Richard Edited February 13, 2023 by 64EK26 typo

I was not aware that the R216 had a separate power supply unit? I thought it was the same as the R109 & you just put power in on it's own? I have done two photo's of the input socket. one with camera flash & one without. Mike.
64EK26
Hi That is the 12 Pin Plessey Mk4 connector Fine thread You should be able to make a power supply, I don't know what voltages are need and what pins on the 12 Pin plug they are connected to. Some manuals are on line, but I don't have a circuit diagram for the radio to hand see http://www.vmarsmanuals.co.uk/archive/2045_R216_Illustrated_Parts_List.pdf and http://www.vmarsmanuals.co.uk/archive/2019_R216_User_Manual.pdf I will check to see if I have a suitable mating connector Cheers Richard

Then confirm what voltage is needed to power it up 12v Or 24V? Then it should be easy t fit a couple of wires to the plug & see if the set works? 64EK26
Hi I am afraid it is not as simple as that From the circuit diagram of the Power Supply, it looks like the radio needs [You will need to double check these before powering up the radio] Pin A 0V Common Ground Pin B +1.4V DC Pin C 6.3V AC Pin D +250V DC Pin E +100V DC Pin F 19V DC Pin G 6.3V AC Pin H 0V Common Ground Pin J +19V DC Pin K 6.3V AC Pin L No Connection Pin M No Connection Might be easier to find a matching power supply Cheers Richard
gordonb
The R216 had two different power supplies either a mains power supply unit or a DC one which I am pretty sure was 24 volt only. The DC ones are rare or should I say rarer than the mains ones. gmb
ferretfixer
Oh Dear..... It looks like I have bought a Pup then?.... ☹️ I wouldnt mind a PSU for DC supply, if anyone has one available?....

This wouldnt be as straight forward as i assumed!.... so,......Anyone want to swap an R109 Reciever set. For an R216?.........😀 Mike. If not 50Hz for e.g. the UK a transformer from the mains would not suffice. Likewise for e.g. USA 60Hz.

I will put it up for sale, or preferably swap for an R109 Reciever.
bigduke6
Hi Mike, Long time no see, obviously won’t see you at the W&P !!! this the 240v PSU, the R216 is a cracker set, as covers a lot of VHF amateur bands etc.
ferretfixer
Hiya Geoff! Yes indeed! it certainly HAS been a Long time Mate! Any idea where I can get a PSU for My Set? Input Power cable would be a Bonus! M.
bigduke6
I haven’t seen any Mike, the R216 and PSU, In above pic, come from an estate sale, I’ve never seen a PSU for sale or Many R216. I,m on the lookout for a Larkspur C11 ( SSB) / R210 set up if you come across any. bought a FFR Landrover Lightweight , 1974, needs work but it’s not too bad, I’d like to able to kit it out in Larkspur gear or Clansman ( have all the clansman gear) the cable you may be able to source one from Don Blanchard.
