LarryH57
The photo I have attached in from circa 1942, and shows an RAF Squadron or Desert Air Force airfield, moving up nearer the front, after an Allied advance, probably post El Alamain. Can anyone identify the six wheeled Ambulance in the centre of the photo? Thanks in advance, Larry
ted angus
Its a Fordson WOT1, there were 2 types of ambo body fitted to the WOT1 , this is the less common version with a less austere appearance. In front of the ambo is a Crossley Fwd crash tender which is minus the enclosure that normally covered the pump.
LarryH57
Thanks Ted, I guess there must have been several versions of the WOT 1 6x4, as all the photos of such vehicles I can find with rounded rear wheel arches don't have such a pronounced edge running round the wheel arch, and many seem to have more of a arched roof? Perhaps they are all Office or crew bus types? Edited January 8, 2023 by LarryH57
radiomike7
Only a model but seems to have the rounded rear arches. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/matador-models-aa76-2-fordson-wot-1--1315097
john1950
Could be a Ford Sussex with the larger front mudguards.
ted angus
I am confident its a WOT 1, pre WW2 the heavy ambo was the Albion, then came the WOT1 with 2 body forms. No evidence in the data books or photographic of the Sussex being used with ambo bodies.
