AlienFTM
The Scorpion in the last but one pic. I bet it has production roadwheels fitted. Wouldn't it be clever of Bovvy to swap the inside roadwheels from this Scorpion with the spoked prototype outside roadwheels on the display Scorpion so that they both look like all Scorpions in service, not (in the case of the one on display) the handful of prototypes? abn deuce
So many goodies , so little time . When I visited there in the late 80's they had two prototype halftracks for testing, I recall they had Land Rover fronts :schocked: with some kind of British tank track system for the rear half. I wondered if any one knew what became of them ? :dunno:

I (and Baz) was in Aliwal Barracks Tidworth 76 - 77 and saw the Centaur travelling from wherever out onto the driver training area on the plain just at the back of our camp. Degsy
The Centaur was not a great success and was dropped but there has always been a rumour that one found its way to the Middle East and used as a desert/border patrol vehicle but i've never heard any specific country named. abn deuce
thanks for the information , perhaps it survived ,what was its main problem ? too complex IE not reliable ?, too heavy?

Degsy
abn deuce, if you type Centaur + Land Rover into your search engine you will find all the info,it answers things I didn't know or had forgotten.
Bazz
Re the Centaur, They are/were 110 LR fronts and CVRT tracks and suspension, they were to have a MG mount and even trialled with a 30mm Rarden mounted. They weren't reliable/tough enough and they literally were shook to bits over rough country. Baz.
Degsy
Most Centaurs were 109" Stage1 V8's, only the last couple were 110's.
Bazz
obviously right there, i've only seen the 110 ones. I'm sure withams had a "tired" one for sale in a tender sale in the last 4-6 months. Baz.

Richard Farrant
Ashley, The sand coloured vehicle, 3rd pic from the bottom, looks like the Humber Mk1 Armoured Car. Another pic captioned as an Austin is actually a Morris Light Recce. The 2nd pic from the top is a prototype / trials Foden 6x6 Recovery with EKA gear only.
