Mark
Well after all this time listening to his master's voice on here I have finally gone and done it, I HAVE AQUIRED A "JIMMY". Myself and a good friend of mine were having a chat late one Sunday at War and Peace over a few beers  when the topic of trucks and wanting a change came up, I was looking for something to camp in rather than a tent, and he was looking for something bigger than the GMC, we discussed the two vehicles, had a look around them about 0100 with a torch and decided it seemed like a good idea but wait until the morning to make a decision. Come something AM we looked again, talked shook hands on the deal and will exchange (straight swap) vehicles at the end of the month, I will then be the owner of a GMC Workshop used by the Swiss army up until 1998 which has been converted to a camper in the back, ideal for me and he will have himself an M35A1 Reo which will be missed by myself, but hey ho things move on but I am well chuffed with what I am getting and I know of only one other like this and that is in the Hop Farm museum, unless someone knows different. I understand that I am going to be ribbed regarding going to the dark side, but one thing in my favour is that I still have a 1954 M series Jeep in my possesion, so I have not completely flipped :-D http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b114/MEasterby-Wood/Reo/CIMG0384.jpg[/img] http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b114/MEasterby-Wood/Reo/CIMG0383.jpg[/img] http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b114/MEasterby-Wood/Reo/CIMG0382.jpg[/img] http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b114/MEasterby-Wood/Reo/CIMG0381.jpg[/img] http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b114/MEasterby-Wood/Reo/CIMG0380.jpg[/img] http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b114/MEasterby-Wood/Reo/CIMG0379.jpg[/img]

Jack
Oh well done that man! Very pleased for you Mark and after fighting your instincts for all of these years you finally listened to your innerself :-D with regards to your Jeep - it don't wash with us WW2 guys - get shot of it. You will find that you will have so much with your GMC as you can't go anywhere without someone stopping you for a chat and to take pictures - happens to us all the time. As someone said to me at the weekend "this GMC has changed my life already" - I told him it would. Welcome aboard Mark and I think it is about time we started a GMC register on here. Degsy
Hi Mark, the original American w/s bodies were slightly different to the post war bodied swiss ones which are quite common. There were a lot of different applications such as Truck, Artillery repair, M9. Truck Instrument repair,M10 etc and there were 2 types of body, a rigid type ST5 which was superseded by a collapsible type ST6 which was to reduce space for shipping. Ther is quite a lot of info in the book 'The GMC and DUKW A Universal Truck' by Boniface and Jeudy

Skint George
Hi Mark, just sent you some data/photos of maintenance trucks that might be of interest. George
TooTallMike
ISBN O 85429 860 6 As Tim says its out of print but is much cheaper in the US, I got my copy via the US version of Amazon for less than £20. This book was updated and reprinted in 2003 in French under the title "GMC un camion de legende" by ETAI; ISBN 2-7268-9323-6. I have both books and I'd say the newer version is better, with more pictures, more colour and most of the inaccuracies corrected. It cost me €29 in FNAC Paris. - Mike
