Lord Burley
I know withams have the task of disposing of the entire fleet of Saxons.Anyone know what the price ranges are? Also i know they are based around the Bedford MK.But can anyone give me an owners perspective? sirhc
Mark, The are based around the TM. Price wise I'd expect £5000 for a non runner and £10,000 + for a better one. They were built in the 80's and are heavy, so you'll need to have the correct category on your driving licence. Chris
Lord Burley
I thought that like some HGV,s driven privately they could be driven on a normal car licence?Weight wise what are we looking at? 10 tons max?
sirhc
I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I'd expect you to need the correct licence to drive one, even if you taxed it as a private hgv. They weigh in at over 10 tons. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxon_%28vehicle%29 Chris
Poptopshed
You can drive up 7.5 ton on your car licence, depending upon when you passed your test. At 10 tons you would need cat C truck licence.
Lord Burley
Cat C? Im used to HGV,1,2,3. Passed my test on my 17th birthday in 87.
Poptopshed
You are fine to drive up 7.5 tons then. The old HGV 123 have been changed to Cat C Rigid HGV and then C+E Artic.

ferretfixer
Why cant they be sold complete??. Hey Mark, I might be wrong but. I had heard that all the Witham Saxons had been sold to a Foriegn Government. I suppose a phone call to them would confirm/ deny if you were seriously interested. :-D Mike
fesm_ndt
I said to pass on the message that why not sell in one piece so can be history etc etc so still kind of disjointed as i am 14 hours behind Malaysia so I get updated in my mornings here i think if in malaysia there scared somone may rob a bank using one... so trying to convince sell it offshore
fesm_ndt
So if these have to be cut up whats worth saving or trying to save i.e. bits people would want to buy as the guy talking to me is trying to buy the reamains if they do ideed cut them up Also if the hull was cut carefully in half is that an option i.e. weld it back up? The chassis is bedford so not so important?? Are they steel or alloy?
