guy66
Left side panel also ready for mounting. And the cherry on the cake, contract plate back on a wireless box. Contract plate is from 1942 but is already for wireless body n°1 Mark III so the right one for the type of body I am reproducing . On the latter boxes it was only a stamped metal plate with all the details and not a brass plate. Maybe I will find the right one for a 1944 radio box and then can swap them . Just need to paint the brass plate , a bit to bright to my liking.

guy66
Made the top plate work of the front section and now I need the help from a local custom car builder to make the louvres on to of this panel. 4 louvres for the front and while we are at it best to have these also made for the rear panels. Made the little roof panel where the aerial cables go out of the box to connect on to the antennas. Had some measurements from a c8 radio box that I inspected a few years ago.
guy66
I am out of paint harder so tomorrow up to the paint shop that I can paint the front part of the box. Repaired the small cabinet that came with the other C4 , this cabinet hangs inside the box on the left front next to the wireless operator. There where big openings in the top panel where speakers were mounted by the previous owner.. There was also one side panel in plywood and replaced this one . On the sliding cabinet doors you still can see the original dark sand colour of the interior of these wireless boxes .
guy66
And now we are waiting to have the louvres been made on the top front panel and the rear panels I made a start on the roof section . The front panel is in place and now the box is permanently fitted to the chassis of the Morris .
guy66
The big wooden challenge! Started with the roof and what can I say, it's a dam complicated construction. Made the front , middle and rear roof cros members and need to adjust the middle one that all 3 are a bit in line. Then I need to make the extra 4 in-between once but these are fitted on the base planks with angled angled steel plate. It's a lot of thinking and measuring because on the sample box the roof section was really messed up. guy66
Roof frame is ready! Made 8 angled metal supports and the construction starts to get more rigid now that everything is screwed together. Next step will be the angle irons that are screwed on to the cross beams and waiting for some information how the spare wheel is fixed on the roof.

guy66
My doubts about fitting the spare wheel on the roof are fading away. Now that the roof section is almost ready it made a big improvement in stability of this section . I am desperately looking for pictures are information how the spare wheel support looks like on the roof of a Morris radio box. There are some Morris wireless body's on the military vehicle seen but its difficult to get some information from the owners 😕.

guy66
Thanks for the pictures bawtrylwt , I now know how this support looks like . I had a ruff idea that it was a simple construction and I am right that it will be easy to reproduce the spare wheel support on the roof. Thanks a million . CMP-Phil
Hi What are you planning to use as a covering? Restoring a WWII S56 radio shelter box, it was covered with tarred canvas, looking for a replacement I found commercial grade rubber membrane roof that is reinforced with fabric. It has stood the test of time installed in 1991 no leaks yet. Look up commercial roofing companies and take a couple of photos of your project, and dimensions, when you visit them. If you are lucky they will take you out in the back and find a piece large enough for your project in their scrap bin. When I did this on a couple of projects they just gave me the stuff. My radio box is on a 1942 CMP C60S Cheers Phil

simon king
If the roof is canvas covered then there is an example of how to do it in the thread on the restoration of the RAF Leyland workshop truck on the WW1 forum here on HMVF. Seems to use a specifically purposed product called “Williamson’s Canvas Roof Bonding Compound”
