robin craig
I can't say I know too much about some of the bigger vehicles but there is a photo on another site of a Centurion with what appears to be a V shaped wading screen in steel. The photographer calls it a DD Centurion but I feel he is mixing terminology. The picture dates from 2011 Link to photo is here http://fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=112&t=40502 Anyone know what it is? R It could be a DD tank it looks to have been dragged from somewhere else on the range looking at the road wheels. http://www.jedsite.info/tanks-charlie/charlie/centurion_series/ddrigid/ddrigid.html http://www.jedsite.info/tanks-charlie/charlie/centurion_series/ddfolding/ddfolding.html
robin craig
And there is me thinking DD was a reference to Shermans, cant imagine swimming a Centurion. R
Richard Farrant
I remember including a photo of one of these Centurions in one of my articles in Vintage Roadscene, it was taken in the wading pool at Chertsey during one of the equipment exhibitions. Not sure that it is a DD, looks more like a wading screen as photos show it with depth markings up to 12 foot on the screen. The photo on a previous link shows the back of one going into the wading tank and no propulsion screws are visible, nor is it mentioned in the write up in the FVRDE 1962 exhibition catalogue. R Robin, All of these vehicles pictured are used as recovery aids for the REME, basically they are pushed down into a valley and then winched out with Fodens.I don't want to say where they are as it is on a closed training area but they have been there many years. There is another location that has a few experimental turrets fitted to chieftains. Rob...................rnixartillery

Robin No I very much doubt it as these are now on the miscellaneous list which means they can be cast as scrap locally ! Rob.................rnixartillery.
