Classic Old ford Posted December 12, 2011 Share Posted December 12, 2011 Hi looking for any info on a 1974 rhd ford escort rs2000. it was sold at mod vehicle sale from ruddington, notts. this may have been around 1979- 1980. i think it went to frank brown motors in allestree, derby. the car had twoway radio gear in it. i was told the car was used over seas by the mod. the car up to now is the only known rs2000 in copper bronze.it was a special order non standard paint job from ford. any info from ruddington back to where it was from new would help. many thanks karl. That unit had all sorts of cars, most brought back from NI and then allocated BT plates I recall. It was a covert intelligence-gethering outfit. Membership consisted of soldiers (incliuding SAS), RUC Special Branch, SIS (formerly MI6) and some specialist tradesmen from the army, THEY NEVER EXISTED !!! Equipment is bought or aquired under one name then used under another , also a lot of unofficial swops and disposal happens. I had a Two door Range Rover, left hand drive auto that was ex SAS, and I know a lot of people claim such things. Diffrence was I could back the claim up. As for getting the history, forget it. Maybe they were an offshoot of the UKLF/BAOR based organisation. Nothing like using existing organisations to muddy the waters. The NI component later became SOTAT. They certainly had priority tasking for E Troop (Girdwood Park) and access to Channel10. It was also at this time when we were stopped from talking to MI6 officers. I was refering to the training base in UK, as mentioned in the link I posted, apparantly another one in BAOR at that time. The one over here used cars which I understood to have been brought back from NI. Troops on tours did training there prior to going over. Going back 25-30 years but mind still clear on this. schliesser92 Posted December 21, 2011 Share Posted December 21, 2011 I must admit, for me it's going back some 37 years! How time flies! I'm aware that units rotating on Op Banner from UKLF or BAOR did some pre-NI training. Unfortunately, specialists (such as myself) were on detached duty and were thrown in at the deep end! I wasn't on Op Banner, my detachment was Op Northern Shot. This was the operation and (in my case) maintenance of a secure radio-relay link between Lisburn (HQNI) and Stranraer with a relay station at the rebro site on Divis Mountain. Ther was also a "spur" to Stormont Castle (office of the PUS for NI).As is usual in the mob, I was continuously "abused" and misused, ending up doing a mass of other jobs, and still managing to sit my T2 upgrading exam. Despite the stress and overwork and the inherant dangers of service in NI, I quite enjoyed myself. with the added satisfaction of knowing that I did a good job of supporting the guys at the sharp end. I was also involved at fitting clandestine radio/electronic kit to vehicles used by NITAT, intelligence and sometimes the RUC Special Branch, and the radios to the two protected fire appliances at Girdwood Park.
