paulob1 Posted December 25, 2010 Share Posted December 25, 2010 the B81 can be troublesome if not maintained rigidly but it is a good deal faster and sharper than the K60 version, or so I am told...the K60 apart from oils fiilters and the odd seal from time to time is pretty much maintenance free... mick garner Posted December 26, 2010 Share Posted December 26, 2010 the big attraction of the Mk1 is that gorgeous straight-eight rumble. the multifuel engine just sounds like a 60 a day smoker screaming at you. When they were in service, I have changed exhaust manifolds and they broke up like old fire bricks, so you can see how hot they got ! adam4949 Posted December 27, 2010 Share Posted December 27, 2010 Hi I have a Mk1 432 and have heard all the critiscisms before but I find the B81 a very reliable engine, especially now I have re-built mine. barrynevuk Posted December 28, 2010 Share Posted December 28, 2010 I run a Mk1 as well. Its a great drive and I've had no problems with it at all. I do run on contaminated fuel which I have managed to aquire from a local garage, but I do make sure the petrol content is as high as possible. We haven't had any problems operating the petrol, I have heard all sorts of stories about ignition problems but we've been ok. I think ours has been the only mk1 at Beltring over the past couple of years, and we've had lots of ex-service men look us up with all sorts of stories and they seemed very popular with those who used them.
