  1. Hi Clive Sorry for the delay replying to your last. I will get some photos of the Pig as it is now and send them to you. A couple of new points you might be able to help with. The skid plate is corroded and I want to remove it and repair, or 're make. However, where it joins the undershield, the bolts are badly decayed. Can I remove the undershield, without support, is it just protective? Interestingly, I found a lot of very yellow sand behind the Skidplate and undershield. Is it likely that this vehicle could have served somewhere hot? I have canvas commanders seat and back, probably provided by you, when you were helping Wayne. The problem I have with battery box clearance is in the frame, which has had weld repairs in the past. I will have to fabricate some new bits and weld them in. Regards Malcolm
  2. Hi Clive Thank you for your response. Yes, I purchased the Pig from Wayne. It was pretty well in the condition it was when he purchased it, except that he had removed and sadly thrown away, the remnants of wings, bins etc, which made fabrication of new tinwork that little more tricky, without the benefit of the remnants as templates. My progress with the restoration has been slow, due to many other projects getting in the way from time to time. It now has new wings, bins and I am currently attempting to repair cracked weld in several places, something I have never encountered on any other armoured vehicle I have restored. Unfortunately, my welder has recently packed up and, supposedly due to Covid, no repair agents locally are able to offer better than 2 to 3 months lead time to get it fixed. Go figure. I am currently looking at upgrading to a new Tig. I am surprised that the configuration of lugs on the back are not for anything specific but at least I do not need to try sourcing a suitable item. I will soon be re-commissioning the lighting system, yet again bleed the brakes, do some repairs to the passenger seat, so that I can get both battery covers to fit, without the back one fouling the underside of the seat frame and many other small jobs. Thank you again for the information. Malcolm
  3. I purchased a Humber Pig a few years ago, that had belonged to Dale Prior, prior to the owner I purchased it from. Although it has taken some time, the vehicle is nearing completion, after a long and often interrupted restoration. I have all the parts that I need and many more besides but have a question about a detail on the vehicle. To the left of the rear, nearside door, there are 4 threaded lugs welded in a rectangular pattern, presumably for something to bolt too. Has anyone got any ideas of what might have been mounted in that position? I have not seen anything similar in any of the Humber Pig literature, although, they do look original,

  5. Hi Can anyone point me towards finding Manuals for the SUMB, in English
  6. Hi welcome to the site. I live just North of Brecon, possibly a bit to far for easy commute. I have the vehicles needing help and TLC, currently, Austin K9, Humber Pig, Saladin, Champ and Eager Beaver. The Pig needs the engine out, Champ needs welding and brakes, K9 needs TLC, the Eager Beaver just requires finishing etc etc. I always struggle to find someone who wants to get their hands dirty.
  7. Hi. Can anyone help me find a suitable, period, Derivers seat for an Eager Beaver, nearing completion of restoration?
  8. Hi I have some bins full of Ferrwt bits and am sure I have some NOS Brow Pads. I will look them out and come back to you. Regards Malcolm
  9. Hi An important tip, with any armour but especially Saladin, due to shortage, or expense of many parts, is would not chop, cut or bash anything off until you are sure you can source a replacement. If the torsion bar can be waggled enough to get it working, leave it alone. Many sealed parts of Alvis vehicles can look like **** on the outside and be perfect within. Check fluids and top up but leave them alone if they work. Do not cut any brake cables, especially the front one's, as they are very hard to source now. Similarly, you mentioned the dust shields for the steering rams. Jack up the front and establish you have a full range of steering. If you have, again check fluid, clean up the outside and leave it alone. The Saladin has simply thousands of parts, so play with as few of them as you possibly can, as the rest will keep you very busy for a few years. If you get stuck for a turret, I might be able to help, as have 2 but only one hull.
  10. Hi I have a K9, with Radio Body and am looking for interior fittings. Do you have any photographs and an idea of cost. Regards Malcolm
  11. Hi You do not need to remove any of the interior parts before lifting the front armour panel away. If you have removed the front lower panel, upper engine covers, central support strap and all bolts, it should lift away. Are you using at least an engine crane. It is very heavy?
  12. I think a Saladin Register is a great idea. I am currently restoring Saladin Reg 00 EC 86. It entered service Jan 67 and was sent directly to the Persian Gulf. Back to UK in 72 and saw no further service and left the Service after 79. I carry quite a few parts for Saracen/ Saladin vehicles, including duplicates.
  13. . I also had one of Jim Davies Saladin Exhaust boxes and heat shroud and can vouch for the quality. I think Jim had them manufactured.
  14. Hi I have a Mk1 432 and have heard all the critiscisms before but I find the B81 a very reliable engine, especially now I have re-built mine. It does sound great and the only problem from my point of view is the current cost of fuel. Regards Malcolm
  15. Hi I am interested in Post WW2 British armoured vehicles, research and restoration. Having recently left the armed forces, I now have the time to take my hobby to another level and will be looking for parts to complete restorations on Saracens, Ferrets, 432s, Saladins and Bedford RLs. Equally, over the years, I seem to have acumulated lots of parts that it has turned out I did not need and hope in time to list some of these for swop or disposal. Malcolm
