You can get thermal lightsticks as well - used for marking helicopter landing sites, among other things. The Americans were using infrared lasers for aiming heavy weaponry for a while (assume they still do) - can be seen through passive night vision devices but not by the naked eye.

thanks all

I've got a TIB kit for a FV432, brand new in the box. I'm going to use most of it for an amber warning beacon for my MJ.

I bought a 24v (visible) amber beacon at Beaulieu for £1 :yay:, think I'll stick to that, not many drivers on the motorways have night vision kit :-D

Good Move John, Not many mototists on the Motorway can actually drive!

Some of the vehicles we drive can sometimes seem VERY interesting to people who have never seen one before.

The ensuing 'Rubber Necking' could cause a situation where there may be an accident through a momentry lapse of driving concentration!

I always use one with a magnetic base fitting on my Ferret.

You know yourself the attention one gets from onlookers when they see one of those!!!!!! :yay:

Easily removed at shows/ displays in a second!

Mike. :)

The TIB kit can be used for a normal flashing beacon. You get the wiring, switch, plug for the dash power terminal, etc, etc.

Don't forget it's illegal to use an amber flashing light if you are moving faster that 25mph... don't know who make up these rules..

A bit more in this old thread http://www.hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=2852

That's not strictly the case. They also are used for STGO and wide loads.

A mate of mine is a Police Officer in the Met and is in the special escort group. Before that he was traffic and firearms. I mentioned about the beacon and his "personal" view was that if an accident occured and you explained to the traffic officer in attendence that you had one working he said this should go FOR you not against you as you have showed you have done as much as you can to show you are a slow moving vehicle.

He is not saying it's right or wrong, but mentioned that most officers will show common sense when investigating an accident.

My flashing beacons won't work through the TIB switch Box... also all the TIB kits I have seen only had the clansman type power plug & not the 2 pin dash plugs:confused:

Do you have the correct TIB box that bleeps??

I have the complete set up but it's still in the box so I don't know whether the box beeps or not. It has two switches, fuse and a light on it, but it's in the Bedford and can't remember what it looks like exactly. The plan is to test it first to see if it works OK. If it does I will use a magnetic beacon on the rear cross member by the rear pintle hook and it it with two connectors. Rig up the box in the cab (comes with velcro strips) and run the wiring along the chassis to the rear. Then all I have to do is plug the light in and switch on. Then when at a show disconnect the beacon and hide away...

Think you may find if it's a Xenon type beacon it may not work with the box, none of mine do, not sure about the basic beacons with ordinary bulbs:confused:
